Job summary

Mastercard is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to lead software teams focused on Java-based platforms and cloud-enabled architectures. You will guide architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate across business units to deliver scalable APIs and data services.

You will participate in code reviews, design reviews, and strategic initiatives to advance on-cloud and on-prem data solutions, while promoting Mastercard Way behaviors and high-quality delivery.

Qualifications

• 9-12+ years of experience in Java development, with 2-3 years designing platform solutions.
• People management / team leadership experience is a must.
• Knowledge of end-to-end software development lifecycle and engineering best practices.
• Experience with enterprise asynchronous/event-based communication and microservices topologies.
• Hands-on design of complex, scalable microservices in distributed environments (Java 11+, Spring, OpenAPI).
• Experience with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, PCF) is a plus.

Data Distribution and Analytics (DDA) program of Data & Analytics business unit, looking for Manager in Software Engineering to lead, mentor and coach software engineering teams to build, enhance and deliver internal or market-facing Product, and Platforms. Someone who combines deep technical experience with great people management skills and can help elevate our teams and our approach to engineering. We are looking for a candidate that has proven experience in coding, architecture leadership, and leading engineers in a fast-paced environment. As a Manager, Software Engineering – a typical day might include:

• Forefront of working on the Services/APIs that power our business as we build the near real time data access solution to drive our customer experience to the next level.
• Perform code reviews, retrospectives, and manage the acceptance of Pull Requests using Git.
• Coach your team in engineering best practices, including 12-factor app design.
• Recruit and hire the right talent, always bringing in someone better than at least half the individuals in the role.
• Collaborating with business leaders across the company to ensure our software products align with business objectives and meet the latest API standards in the industry
• Leading our engineering teams in an agile team structure to advance high level strategies like cloud enablement and streaming analytics
• Emulate and drive Mastercard Way behaviors through their behavior, recognitions, coaching, and employee engagement
• Provide strategic thinking and leadership related to a wide range of applications and systems, or software-development methodologies
• Working with Senior Leadership to advance our Big Data Strategy for On-Cloud and On-Prem.
• Benchmark and drive engineering productivity, quality, and technology policy compliance in the areas of ownership
• Ability to thrive under pressure and function effectively in a fast-paced work environment

All about you:

• 9-12+ years of experience in Java development, out of which 2-3 years of experience in designing platform solution
• People management / managing a team end to end experience is a must
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations.
• Have knowledge and demonstrate experience in - Enterprise level asynchronous/event-based communication and integration. Microservices topologies, including operational concerns such as resiliency, observability, discovery and routing, etc.
• Hands on experience in designing complex, highly scalable and performing microservices in a distributed environment and to have deep technical skills in the following areas: Java 11 and above, Spring framework, React-Spring, Spring Batch, OpenAPI (Swagger), SQL, CI/CD, Docker, Serverless technologies.
• You have a strong commitment towards quality and continuous improvement of processes and software; you're well-versed with software engineering practices. (e.g. Continuous Integration, Build/Deploy, Unit Testing, Regression Testing, Test & Staging Environments, object-oriented design and development)
• Able to independently come-up with different approaches and solution, prepare high-level and low-level designs and create documentation.
• Approaches to Architecture governance and high-volume data access and evolution in practice.
• Good to have knowledge of any cloud technology (Azure, AWS, PCF)
• Plan, design and develop technical solutions and alternatives to meet business requirements in adherence with MasterCard standards, processes and best practices.
• Accountable for full systems development life cycle including creating design and other technical artifacts including but not limited to detailed test strategy/test design, performance benchmarking, release rollout and deployment plans, contingency/back-out plans, feasibility study, cost and time analysis and detailed estimates.
• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• Experience in recruiting, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers.
• Responsible for the analysis, design, development, and delivery of software solutions.
