Role Summary:
The Lead Safety/EHS develops, implements, and oversees the comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) program for large-scale EPC projects. This role ensures total compliance with local, federal, and international safety regulations while fostering a zero-incident safety culture across corporate offices, engineering centers, procurement hubs, and construction sites.
Role & responsibilities :
1. Safety Leadership & Strategy
- HSE Management Plan: Design, execute, and maintain project-specific HSE Management Plans, Emergency Response Plans (ERP), and Environmental Mitigation Plans.
- Safety Culture: Foster a "Safety First" mindset across all project tiers, including engineering teams, procurement staff, field workers, and subcontractors.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain absolute compliance with OSHA, EPA, ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), and applicable local statutory laws.
2. Engineering & Procurement Phase Support
- Safety in Design (SiD): Collaborate with engineering teams to participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies, Hazard Identification (HAZID) reviews, and Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA).
- Vendor & Subcontractor Prequalification: Review and vet the safety records, policies, and capabilities of potential subcontractors and material vendors during the bidding phase.
3. Site Safety & Construction Execution
- Risk Assessments: Lead the development of Job Safety Analyses (JSA), Method Statements, and Pre-Task Risk Assessments for high-risk construction activities (e.g., heavy lifting, confined spaces, working at heights, hot work).
- Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular, unannounced safety audits and daily site inspections to detect hazards, rectify unsafe behaviors, and ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Permit to Work (PTW): Oversee and audit the Permit to Work system to guarantee all high-risk tasks are strictly controlled and authorized.
4. Incident Investigation & Reporting
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead investigations for all near-misses, first-aid cases, medical treatments, lost-time injuries (LTI), and property damage.
- Corrective Actions: Formulate and track the implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to avoid recurrence.
- HSE Metrics: Compile, analyze, and present weekly and monthly HSE performance metrics (e.g., Total Recordable Incident Rate, Safe Man-Hours) to corporate management and clients.
5. Training & Competency
- Induction & Training: Oversee the mandatory safety induction program for all new employees, visitors, and subcontractors.
- Toolbox Talks: Standardize and monitor daily toolbox talks and deliver specialized safety training (e.g., scaffolding safety, electrical safety, chemical handling).
Preferred candidate profile
- Education: BE/B.Tech in(Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical) & PG Diploma in Industrial Safety from UGC/AICTE approved Universities/Institutions. (Must be Full time/Regular course)
- Certifications (Highly Preferred):
- NEBOSH International Diploma / IGC
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
- Lead Auditor Certification for ISO 45001 / ISO 14001
- Experience:
- Minimum of 12+ years of progressive HSE experience, with at least 7 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity explicitly within the EPC, oil & gas, infrastructure, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Skills:
- Deep understanding of EPC project lifecycles and construction methodologies.
- Strong command of risk assessment methodologies (HAZOP, HAZID).
- Exceptional conflict resolution, communication, and leadership capabilities.
- Proficiency in HSE data management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
