Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the power plant and associated utility systems
  • Ensure uninterrupted power availability to support business and production requirements
  • Lead maintenance of boilers, turbines, generators, transformers, electrical distribution systems, and auxiliary equipment
  • Drive plant reliability, equipment availability, and operational efficiency
  • Develop and monitor KPIs including plant availability, efficiency, heat rate, and operating costs
  • Plan and execute major shutdowns, overhauls, inspections, and critical maintenance activities
  • Manage annual OPEX/CAPEX budgets for the power plant and utilities
  • Identify opportunities for energy conservation and cost reduction
  • Maintain strict compliance with statutory, environmental, electrical, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of engineers, operators, technicians, and contractors

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Manager – Power Plant to lead the overall operations, maintenance, performance, and reliability of our power generation and utility systems.

The ideal candidate will have 15–25 years of strong experience in power plant operations and maintenance, with proven expertise in managing large teams, improving plant efficiency, optimizing operating costs, ensuring statutory compliance, and driving a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the power plant and associated utility systems.
  • Ensure uninterrupted power availability to support business and production requirements.
  • Lead operations and maintenance of boilers, turbines, generators, transformers, electrical distribution systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Drive plant reliability, equipment availability, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators including plant availability, efficiency, heat rate, auxiliary consumption, fuel consumption, and operating cost.
  • Develop and implement long-term strategies for asset reliability, maintenance optimization, energy efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Lead preventive, predictive, condition-based, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Plan and execute major shutdowns, overhauls, inspections, and critical maintenance activities.
  • Ensure effective troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of equipment failures and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Develop and manage the annual OPEX/CAPEX budgets for the power plant and utilities.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for energy conservation, process optimization, and reduction of operating costs.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable statutory, environmental, electrical, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a strong HSE culture, ensuring zero-compromise adherence to safe operating and maintenance practices.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, operators, technicians, and contractors.
  • Manage manpower planning, competency development, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Coordinate closely with Production, Engineering, Projects, Maintenance, EHS, Finance, Procurement, and other functions.
  • Manage relationships with OEMs, contractors, consultants, service providers, and statutory authorities.
  • Prepare and present plant performance reviews, improvement plans, budgets, and management reports.
  • Drive a culture of operational excellence, reliability, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Power Engineering or a related discipline. A postgraduate qualification or management certification will be an advantage.
  • 15–25 years of relevant experience in power plant operations and maintenance, preferably in a large manufacturing, process, or energy-intensive industry.
  • Strong hands-on and managerial experience in boiler, turbine, generator, electrical systems, utilities, and plant maintenance.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale power plant operations and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of plant reliability, maintenance strategies, energy management, and operational excellence.
  • Experience in managing CAPEX/OPEX, annual budgets, shutdowns, major projects, and contractor management.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements related to power generation, electrical systems, environment, and industrial safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve plant efficiency, reliability, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong commercial and business acumen with the ability to align power plant performance with overall organizational objectives.
