Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Discom Power Planning and Optimization: advise state Discoms on procurement planning and cost optimization.
  • Data Analytics and Energy Modelling: develop dashboards and support management decisions.
  • Renewable Energy Strategy and Transition: craft roadmaps for renewable procurement and integration.
  • Policy, Regulatory and Market Analysis: track developments and implications for clients.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: design and deliver training and workshops for utilities and agencies.
  • Project Implementation and PMC Support: monitor projects and escalate issues.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and talented professional with a strong understanding of Discoms, power markets, procurement, policy and regulatory developments, energy transition and strategic advisory. The candidate should possess sufficient technical understanding to assess emerging energy-sector solutions, while ensuring high-quality deliverables, regulatory compliance and timely, responsive support to client requirements.

Detailed expectations from the role:

  • Discom Power Planning and Optimization Advise State Discoms on power procurement planning, resource adequacy, power shortage/surplus assessment and optimization of power purchase costs, including evaluation of short-, medium- and long-term procurement options.
  • Data Analytics, Energy Modelling and Decision Support Undertake power-sector data analysis, energy modelling and scenario assessment to support procurement strategy, project evaluation, market assessment and management decision-making, including development of analytical dashboards and management presentations.
  • Renewable Energy Strategy and Energy Transition Advisory Support clients in developing renewable energy strategies and transition roadmaps, including assessment of procurement options, renewable power sourcing, open access/captive solutions, storage and emerging RE procurement mechanisms.
  • Policy, Regulatory and Market Analysis Analyze policy, regulatory and market developments affecting renewable energy, power procurement and electricity markets, and assess their implications for clients’ projects, business strategies and investment decisions.
  • Capacity Building and Stakeholder Engagement Design and support delivery of training, workshops and capacity-building programmes on renewable energy, power markets, procurement, clean-energy transition and related sector developments; engage with utilities, government agencies, developers and other stakeholders.
  • Project Implementation and PMC Support Support implementation and monitoring of renewable energy projects, including coordination with project stakeholders, review of key deliverables, tracking of project progress, and identification and escalation of technical, commercial and regulatory issues.

Required skill set

  • Experience in power-sector consulting, advisory or project management, preferably with exposure to Discoms, power markets, renewable energy or energy transition.
  • Understanding of power-sector business, market and commercial aspects, including power procurement, power markets, resource planning and related decision-making processes.
  • Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to develop reports, presentations, analytical assessments and client-facing deliverables.
  • Understanding of policy, regulatory and market developments across the power sector, including their implications for utilities, market participants and energy-sector businesses.
  • Understanding of energy transition themes, including renewable energy integration, decarbonization, energy efficiency, energy storage and evolving power-sector business models.
  • Working knowledge of key power-sector regulatory and commercial frameworks, including open access, captive/group captive, power procurement, transmission and distribution-related regulations and applicable charges.
  • Experience in supporting power procurement, tendering and commercial processes, including preparation/review of RFPs, bid documents, evaluation frameworks and related documentation.
  • Ability to undertake market assessment, techno-commercial analysis and evaluation of strategic options, and support clients in developing recommendations and implementation roadmaps.
  • Ability to track and interpret regulations, policies and guidelines issued by CERC, SERCs, MoP, MNRE and other relevant sector institutions, and assess their implications for clients.
  • Good understanding of emerging power-market and energy-transition developments, including renewable energy procurement, FDRE/RTC, BESS, pumped storage and other flexibility solutions.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferred streams are Electrical, Mechanical or any related field. Master's degree preferred (MBA/M. Tech).
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of 3 years in the Power sector.

Location

  • Base location shall be Chennai. However, the role would require the applicant to undertake travel or relocation for pursuing various opportunities.
