Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SINE) IIT Bombay invites a Manager – Lab Infrastructure (Mechanical Lab) to oversee Metal Working, Electronics & Prototyping labs and shared facilities. You will manage procurement, training, and safety programs, driving efficient operations and innovation support for deep tech startups.

The role requires 5–7 years in prototyping or mechanical labs, with at least 2 years as Lab Incharge/Manager, and strong MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• Engineering graduate with specialization in Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical or Science/Physics/Electronics background.
• 5–7 years’ experience in prototyping or mechanical laboratory, including 2 years as Lab Incharge/Manager.
• Hands-on with a broad range of laboratory equipment.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT).

Responsibilities

• Oversee laboratory operations for Metal Working, Electronics & Prototyping labs and shared equipment.
• Be the primary contact for startups, members and stakeholders using the space.
• Ensure safety, accuracy, and regulatory compliance; manage day-to-day operations and budget.
• Develop SOPs for equipment; train users; ensure ISO compliance and maintain records.
• Lead lab team, maintain equipment and supplies; explore self-sustainability initiatives.

Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SINE) is one of the leading technology business incubators in the country. Housed in IIT Bombay, SINE IITB provides incubation support to technology-based startups by way of infrastructure, laboratory facilities, and value add. SINE’s prototyping & testing lab currently houses with high-end machines such as 3D printers, Electronics Test Setup, Soldering & desoldering stations. SINE’s Metalworking Lab is equipped with CNC/Manual Mill & Lathe machines, laser cutter, Power tools, Hand tolls etc

SINE has been selected as a Centre of Excellence by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, and is in the process of enhancing its lab facilities and will house various equipment totaling Rs. 15-20 crore.

Role

Responsible for management and overall smooth & efficient operations of Metal Working, Electronics & Prototyping laboratories, and shared equipment facility supporting deep tech startups. He / She will be the key contact for all startups, members, and other stakeholders using the space – shared lab, equipment, including induction and training on their use. He/She will ensure that all the activities are conducted safely, accurately, and in compliance with regulations and standards. He/She will oversee the day-to-day operations, manage the lab team, maintain equipment and adequate supplies. He/She will also work towards making lab activities self-sustainable in the long run by bringing in new initiatives, providing expertise to innovators, and building connections.

Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Operations Management:

• To oversee and organize all the laboratory supplies, consumables & accessories
• Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration, maintenance, and repairs.
• Manage the process of procurement of laboratory equipment and documentation as per SINE’s policy
• Develop SOPs for the lab equipment and ensure the implementation of the same
• Ensure compliance with ISO standards and maintain the data accordingly
• Managing and maintaining database systems.
• Design and conduct trainings in the labs

Quality Assurance and Lab Safety

• Develop and implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
• Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel/users.
• Deploying software solutions to automate processes and enhance transparency.
• Maintain documentation and records related to laboratory activities, including protocols, procedures, and safety reports.
• Participate in internal and external audits and inspections, addressing any findings and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Research Support & Budget

• Collaborate and assist in the execution of research activities, providing technical expertise and troubleshooting assistance to the users.
• Evaluate and recommend equipment purchases and upgrades based on requirements and budget constraints.
• Develop and manage the laboratory budget, including forecasting expenses and allocating funds appropriately.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiencies without compromising quality or safety.

Qualifications, Experience, and Expertise:

• Engineering Graduate with specialization in Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical or Science Post-Graduate /Graduate in Physics/Electronics
• Minimum 5 - 7 years’ experience of working in prototyping or mechanical laboratory of which at least 2 years as a Lab Incharge/ Manager.
• Practical experience in working with broad range of laboratory equipment.
• Hands on with Microsoft Office (Word, excel, ppt)
