Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an Engine Test Maintenance Manager to lead all maintenance activities for engine testing facilities, test cells, dynamometers, and emissions equipment.

You will ensure maximum uptime, reliability, safety, and compliance while supporting production, validation, and certification testing. The role requires leadership of maintenance teams, development of preventative strategies, establishment of KPI targets, and collaboration with engineering and suppliers on upgrades

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering.
• 5–10 years of maintenance experience in automotive manufacturing, powertrain, or engine testing environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead maintenance teams for engine test cells and supporting equipment.
• Develop preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize equipment reliability.
• Establish maintenance KPIs including uptime, MTBF, MTTR, and equipment availability.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.

• Oversee calibration and validation of measuring equipment.

Role Definition

The Engine Test Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance activities related to engine testing facilities, test cells, dynamometers, emissions equipment, data acquisition systems, utilities, and supporting infrastructure. The role ensures maximum equipment uptime, reliability, safety, compliance, and operational efficiency while supporting production, validation, development, and certification testing activities.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Leadership & Management

• Lead and manage maintenance teams responsible for engine test cells and supporting equipment.
• Develop preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize equipment reliability.
• Establish maintenance KPIs including uptime, MTBF, MTTR, and equipment availability.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
• Manage shift coverage and maintenance resource planning.

Engine Test Cell Equipment Maintenance

• Ensure reliable operation of:
  • Engine dynamometers
  • Fuel systems
  • Cooling systems
  • Air handling systems
  • Exhaust extraction systems
  • Emission measurement equipment
  • Data acquisition and control systems
  • Instrumentation and sensors
• Oversee calibration and validation of measuring equipment.

Reliability & Continuous Improvement

• Implement Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) methodologies.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures.
• Lead corrective and preventive action implementation.
• Utilize predictive maintenance tools including vibration analysis, thermography, and condition monitoring.
• Support Industry 4.0 and digital maintenance initiatives.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain ISO, IATF, and environmental standards.
• Lead lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety audits.
• Ensure compliance with emissions testing and laboratory standards.
• Drive a zero-injury safety culture.

Budget & Asset Management

• Prepare and manage annual maintenance budgets.
• Optimize spare parts inventory and critical spares strategy.
• Manage maintenance contracts and OEM service providers.
• Support capital project planning and execution.
• Evaluate equipment life-cycle costs and replacement plans.

New Equipment & Project Management

• Support installation and commissioning of new test cells and testing equipment.
• Participate in factory expansions and new product launch activities.
• Ensure maintainability and reliability requirements are incorporated into new equipment designs.
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, and suppliers during equipment upgrades.

Team Development

• Develop technical capabilities of maintenance technicians and engineers.
• Conduct performance management and succession planning.
• Establish training programs for advanced diagnostics and automation systems.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Education & Experience

Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering.
• 5-10 years of maintenance experience in automotive manufacturing, powertrain, or engine testing environments.

Preferred

• Certifications in Reliability Engineering, TPM, Six Sigma, or Project Management.
• Experience with engine dynamometer systems and emissions testing facilities.
