The Position

The role involves managing engineers and technical staff in the research, design, and development of cutting-edge technologies and prototypes for hardware and software. The position may oversee multiple team members within a matrix structure aligned with core competency departments. Responsibilities include consulting with managerial personnel to clarify product requirements, identify challenges, recommend changes, and define required functionality. The role demands leadership in fostering innovation, ensuring project alignment with organizational goals, and driving the realization of new technology solutions.

  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD processes and modern development tools (e.g., Git repositories).
  • Ability to build and lead self-sufficient, cross-functional teams (Development, Testing, Operations).
  • Drive accountability and ownership across teams.
  • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and adaptability to changing priorities (e.g., JIRA).
  • Multi-tasking and managing multiple workstreams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and drive outcomes.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Proven ability to plan and ensure timely completion of multiple projects, including oversight of budgets and resources.
  • Establish clear goals, scope, approach, schedules, and manpower to accomplish objectives.
  • Operate effectively with general guidance from senior management while independently determining best approaches to achieve results.
  • Cross-functional collaboration, handling crucial conversations, and maintaining mutual respect with subordinates and peers.
  • Evaluating and analyzing administrative or business problems and resource allocation.
  • Direct and coordinate teams in developing solutions to technical challenges requiring deep investigation.
  • Manage department activities, coordinate and review subordinates’ work to design new prototypes and evaluate existing designs.
  • Analyze technology trends to identify new product ideas.
  • Confer with management, production, and marketing to determine feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Forecast operating costs and prepare budget requests.
  • Administer personnel functions, including recruiting and placement of personnel.
  • Plan and establish schedules and follow up on performance against estimates.
  • Provide technical or administrative consultation to peers or management on projects.
  • Make or review decisions regarding technical approaches or product designs with staff input, considering resource allocation and time schedules.

Bonus Skills

  • Understanding of Cloud Infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.).
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles and building self-sufficient teams.
  • Exposure to Operational Support with knowledge of Incident Management.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 6 years of related work experience, preferably in cabin avionics. In-flight entertainment highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing and development environment.
