Job summary

DIAGEO India is seeking a Manager - EHS to lead the site's Environment, Health & Safety strategy, governance and compliance. This role ensures adherence to applicable regulations and drives safety culture across manufacturing operations.

You will coordinate with regulatory authorities, manage statutory licenses, and implement programs to improve KPIs, environmental safeguards and risk controls across the site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Civil/Environmental with Post Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety from a reputed institute.
  • 8–10 years of work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive the overall Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) strategy, governance, and compliance framework for the manufacturing site in alignment with company standards and Karnataka requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations including Factories Act, Karnataka Factories Rules, Environment Protection Act, Water & Air Acts, and other statutory norms.
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities including DISH, KSPCB, Fire Department, PESO, Labour Department, and local authorities.
  • Ensure timely renewal and maintenance of all statutory licenses, approvals, consents, permits, and safety-related authorizations.
  • Lead preparation and submission of statutory returns, environmental statements, and regulatory documentation.
  • Coordinate and manage government inspections, audits, and ensure closure of observations.
  • Develop and implement site EHS objectives, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive proactive safety culture through leadership, safety programs, and shopfloor interventions.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Monitor EHS KPIs and compliance reporting through internal systems.

About The Role
  • Lead and drive the overall Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) strategy, governance, and compliance framework for the manufacturing site in alignment with company standards and applicable Karnataka statutory requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations including the Factories Act, Karnataka Factories Rules, Environment Protection Act, Water & Air Acts, Hazardous Waste Rules, PESO regulations, Fire Safety norms, Electrical Safety regulations, Occupational Health standards, and Karnataka Labour Department requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities including DISH, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Fire Department, PESO, Labour Department, and local statutory authorities.
  • Ensure timely renewal and maintenance of all statutory licenses, approvals, consents, permits, Fire NOCs, hazardous waste authorizations, and environmental clearances.
  • Lead preparation and submission of statutory returns, environmental statements, compliance reports, and regulatory documentation within defined timelines.
  • Coordinate and manage all government inspections, statutory audits, regulatory visits, and ensure timely closure of observations and compliance gaps.
  • Develop and implement site EHS objectives, annual improvement plans, compliance programs, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture through leadership engagement, behaviour-based safety programs, employee participation initiatives, and shopfloor safety interventions.
  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, process safety reviews, HAZOP studies, and implementation of risk mitigation measures across operations.
  • Ensure effective implementation and monitoring of critical safety programs including Permit to Work (PTW), LOTO, confined space entry, work at height, hot work, contractor safety management, machine safety, and chemical safety management systems.
  • Lead investigation of incidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and Serious Injury/Fatality (SIF) events, ensuring root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor and report GRMS standards, EHS KPIs, compliance metrics, and management reporting requirements through Enablon and other internal systems.
  • Lead environmental management programs related to air emissions, water consumption, effluent treatment, hazardous waste handling, pollution prevention, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Oversee ETP and STP operations to ensure compliance with KSPCB norms and environmental regulations.
  • Manage hazardous waste handling, storage, transportation, disposal activities, vendor compliance, and manifest documentation in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives including energy conservation, water conservation, waste reduction, ESG reporting, and Business Responsibility & Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) requirements.
  • Ensure effective emergency preparedness and response systems including fire prevention, mock drills, evacuation procedures, crisis management, and coordination with external emergency agencies.
  • Ensure periodic inspection, testing, certification, and maintenance of firefighting systems, pressure vessels, lifting tools and tackles, electrical systems, and critical safety equipment.
  • Develop and implement EHS training programs, safety induction sessions, competency development initiatives, and awareness campaigns for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Lead contractor safety management processes including contractor onboarding, compliance verification, audits, permit monitoring, and safety performance reviews.
  • Conduct periodic EHS audits, inspections, compliance assessments, management walkthroughs, and follow-up of corrective actions.
  • Ensure implementation of occupational health monitoring programs, industrial hygiene assessments, ergonomics initiatives, and employee wellness programs.
  • Maintain EHS documentation, legal registers, SOPs, compliance trackers, audit records, and statutory records as per company and legal requirements.
  • Provide EHS guidance and support for engineering projects, plant modifications, expansions, commissioning activities, and operational changes.
  • Prepare and present periodic EHS performance reviews, compliance updates, incident trends, and risk management reports to plant leadership and management teams.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, engineering, HR, quality, warehouse, supply chain, contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders to drive EHS excellence across the site.
  • Mentor and develop EHS team members while building EHS capability and accountability across functions.
  • Act as the site custodian for EHS governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, sustainability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform any other EHS, sustainability, compliance, or operational responsibilities assigned by plant leadership or management from time to time.
