Job summary

Ingersoll Rand Compressor Systems & Services in Bangalore seeks an experienced Design Manager to lead cost-effective, lean customized precision fastening machines and handling equipment for manufacturing industries. You will review RFQs, design, and support cross-functional teams through the project lifecycle.

The role requires 15+ years in custom machine building, strong leadership, and hands-on design with SPMs, robotics, and control knowledge. Travel up to 30–40% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Automation Engineering.
• Minimum of 15+ years of experience in custom machine building.
• Hands-on design and estimation experience for Special Purpose Machines and precision fastening machines.
• Knowledge of SPMs, robotics, handling equipment, and fastening systems.
• Basic knowledge of controls and programming.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Access.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities from RFQ understanding to design release in systems.
• Develop new products aligned with solution business and market needs.
• Guide a design and contract engineering team across projects.

Job Overview

The Design Manager will design the cost effective & lean customized precision fastening machines (Nut runners), Handling machines for pick & place of components and Special purpose machines for the manufacturing industries. Responsibilities include reviewing customer RFQs, designing and supporting cross functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all the engineering activities, which include understanding the requirements of customers and submitting Techno Commercial offers followed by DAP & release design in the system for Manufacturing.
• Capable of developing new products after understanding the Solution business and market requirements.
• Should have very good hands‑on experience in leading a team of design engineers and contract engineers
• Should be capable of working on multiple projects at a time.
• Deliver the Engineering outcome before the committed timeline and Exceed customer expectations.
• Lead the design team to ensure timely release of designs satisfying the customer requirements
• Coming up with lean design compared to the competition and increasing more material margins to the business.
• Ensure that the customer requirements are clearly understood from RFQ.
• Should support the business by converting all the sales enquiries into potential orders by providing innovative and cost-effective solutions to win the order.
• Should involve himself from RFQ stage till the product is delivered to the customer, should take the ownership of the project and drive the cross functional team in achieving their respective milestones.
• Manage the Power Tools and ILE Solutions Engineering team.
• Should act as a Single point of contact for all Technicals which includes Design, Manufacturing, Assembly, Testing & After Market support.
• Implement continuous improvement: define and optimize Solutions project execution processes
• Technical support to teams in high complexity projects
• Establish systems / process to each function / task that helps / guides the team member in running the task without any dependencies and increase their efficiency.
• Keep all the internal & external stakeholders updated on the progress of the project.
• Work with the sales team to identify new opportunities for ETO solutions

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Automation Engineering.
• Minimum of 15+ years of experience in custom machine building.
• Hands‑on experience in designing, estimations of Special Purpose Machines, Precision Fastening machines and handling equipment (Manipulators)
• Knowledge of latest technologies in Special purpose Machines, Robotic, Handling equipment’s & fastening systems.
• Basic knowledge on controls part & Programming.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Access.
