Job summary

Ingersoll Rand plc Bengaluru seeks a Design Manager to lead the cost‑effective development of precision fastening and handling machines, reviewing RFQs and guiding cross-functional teams through the project lifecycle. You will manage multiple projects, mentor design engineers and contractors, deliver designs on time, and push lean designs that improve margins while aligning with customer requirements.

The role requires a mechanical/mechatronics/Automation background with 15+ years in custom

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, mechatronics, or industrial automation engineering.
• Minimum of 15+ years of experience in custom machine building.
• Hands-on experience in designing, estimations of SPM, precision fastening machines and handling equipment.
• Knowledge of latest technologies in SPM, robotics, handling equipment and fastening systems.
• Basic knowledge on controls and programming.

• Responsible for all engineering activities, including understanding customer requirements and submitting techno-commercial offers.
• Capable of developing new products after understanding Solution business and market requirements.
• Lead a team of design engineers and contract engineers; manage multiple projects.

Job Overview:

The Design Manager will design the cost effective & lean customized precision fastening machines (Nut runners), Handling machines for pick & place of components and Special purpose machines for the manufacturing industries. Responsibilities include reviewing customer RFQs, designing and supporting cross functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible forall the engineering activities, which include understanding the requirements of customers and submitting Techno Commercial offers followed by DAP & release design in the system for Manufacturing.
• Capable of developing new products after understanding the Solution business and market requirements.
• Should have very good hands‑on experience in leading a team of design engineers and contract engineers
• Should be capable of working on multiple projects at a time.
• Deliver the Engineering outcome before the committed timeline and Exceed customer expectations.
• Lead the design team to ensure timely release of designs satisfying the customer requirements
• Coming up with lean design compared to the competition and increasing more material margins to the business.
• Ensure that the customer requirements are clearly understoodfrom RFQ.
• Should support the business by converting all the sales enquiries into potential orders by providing innovative and cost‑effective solutions to win the order.
• Should involve himself from RFQ stage till the product is delivered to the customer, should takethe ownership of the project and drive the cross functional team in achieving their respective milestones.
• Manage the Power Tools and ILE Solutions Engineering team.
• Should act as a Single point of contact for all Technicals which includes Design, Manufacturing, Assembly, Testing & After Market support.
• Implement continuous improvement: define and optimize Solutions project execution processes
• Technical support to teams in high complexity projects
• Establish systems / process to each function / task that helps / guides the team member in running the task without any dependencies and increase their efficiency.
• Keep all the internal& external stakeholders updated on the progress of the project.
• Work with the sales team to identify new opportunities for ETO solutions

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Automation Engineering.
• Minimum of 15+ years of experience in custom machine building.
• Hands‑on experience in designing, estimations of Special Purpose Machines, Precision Fastening machines and handling equipment (Manipulators)
• Knowledge of latest technologies in Special purpose Machines, Robotic, Handling equipment’s & fastening systems.
• Basic knowledge on controls part & Programming.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Access.

• Should be open to travel when there is a requirement (30 to 40%)
• Excellent Communication Skills: Able to convey ideas clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Team Player and Individual Contributor: Capable of working collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently to achieve goals.
• Eager Learner: Continuously seeks to learn and improve skills and knowledge.
• Preference will be given only to a candidate who has rich experience in SPM,Automation& Robotics.
