Deputy Manager / Manager – Tile Designer

1. Role Purpose

To conceptualize, develop and commercialize innovative, aesthetically differentiated and market-relevant tile designs aligned with consumer preferences, architectural trends and business requirements.

The role will be responsible for end-to-end tile design development—from trend research and concept creation to artwork development, sampling, design validation and coordination with R&D and production for successful commercialization.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Tile Design & Product Development

Develop innovative designs for wall tiles, floor tiles, glazed vitrified tiles, porcelain tiles and other surface solutions.

Create design concepts, patterns, textures, motifs, graphics and colour combinations based on defined product briefs.

Develop new tile collections aligned with target customer segments, price points and market requirements.

Translate concepts into production-feasible designs while maintaining the desired aesthetic and design intent.

Develop design variations, colourways and surface treatments to create differentiated product collections.

Manage multiple design projects from concept to final approval within agreed timelines.

B. Trend Research & Design Intelligence

Track emerging trends in architecture, interior design, materials, colours, textures, fashion and global surface design.

Conduct competitor and market analysis to identify design gaps and opportunities.

Study domestic and international tile collections and benchmark leading players.

Participate in relevant exhibitions, design fairs and market visits to identify new design directions.

Convert market intelligence into commercially relevant design concepts.

C. Digital Artwork & Surface Design

Create high-quality digital artwork, seamless patterns, textures and surface graphics for tile applications.

Develop repeat patterns, colour combinations and design variations suitable for digital printing and other decoration technologies.

Prepare mood boards, concept boards, design presentations and collection themes.

Ensure accuracy of artwork dimensions, repeat, scale, colour and visual composition.

Maintain an organized digital library of concepts, approved artworks and design references.

D. R&D, Technical & Production Coordination

Work closely with R&D, Technical, Production, Quality and Digital Printing teamsto convert designs into production-ready products.

Coordinate design trials, sampling, colour matching and artwork corrections.

Understand production constraints and incorporate technical feasibility into design development.

Evaluate samples against the original design concept and recommend modifications where required.

Support resolution of design-related issues during trials and commercialization.

Ensure approved designs are accurately translated into mass production.

E. New Collection Development

Develop new collections based on market trends, customer requirements and organizational product strategy.

Create coordinated design stories across formats, surfaces, colours and applications.

Support product launches through design presentations, collection concepts and product communication inputs.

Collaborate with Marketing, Sales and Product teams to understand customer and market feedback.

Maintain a continuous pipeline of new and commercially viable design concepts.

F. Design Quality & Governance

Establishand maintain design quality standards across assigned product categories.

Review artworks before sampling and production release.

Maintain proper documentation, approvals and version control for design files.

Ensure confidentiality and appropriate control of proprietary designs.

Identify opportunities to improve design development processes, speed and efficiency.

G. Team & Stakeholder Management

Guide and mentor junior designers and team members, wherever applicable.

Allocate and prioritize design projects based on business requirements.

Present design concepts and collections to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.

Work effectively with internal teams and external design consultants/agencies, where required.

Ensure timely completion of design deliverables and maintain high-quality output.

3. Role Specifications

Education:
Bachelor’s / Diploma in Ceramic Design, Product Design, Textile Design, Fine Arts, Interior Design, Graphic Design or related field.

Experience:
6–12 years of relevant experience in Tile Design / Ceramic Design / Surface Design / Digital Printing / Product Design.

Industry Preference:
Candidates from Ceramic Tiles, Sanitaryware, Building Materials, Surface Design, Home Décor or related manufacturing industries.

Location:
Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

Travel:
Occasional travel may be required for market visits, exhibitions, customer understanding and design research.

4. Desired Candidate Profile

Strong experience in ceramic/tile design and surface development.

Good understanding of tile aesthetics, patterns, textures, colours, finishes and design applications.

Experience in developing designs specifically for digital printing / ceramic decoration technologieswill be preferred.

Strong portfolio demonstrating commercially successful design work.

Ability to balance creativity, market trends and manufacturing feasibility.

Experience of working closely with R&D, production and technical teams.
