Job summary

Job description

As a Mainframe Storage Administrator, you will provide technical support with a high degree of customer satisfaction by meeting Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and ensuring process compliance. You will perform business impact analyses and risk assessments to reduce the likelihood of significant service outages or disasters.

Key Responsibilities

• Adapt to evolving technology to meet shifting customer and business requirements.
• Perform storage box data migration (DASD-to-DASD and tape-to-tape) and storage replication.
• Analyze and research integration options for collaboration with existing external systems.
• Prepare Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and ensure timely submission in line with SLA commitments.
• Develop, document, and maintain procedures for system utilities — backup/restore, performance tuning, environment configuration, and incremental backups.
• Initialize and add new DASD and tape volumes; perform space management activities including VTOC resizing, defragmentation, and compress/reclaim/release/cleanup of datasets.
• Manage and define SMS rules and ACS routines, along with reorganization of storage datasets (RMM/HSM CDS & catalog files).
• Plan for disaster recovery and perform recovery testing (tape recovery, DASD replication, tape replication); manage Copy Services and GDPS.
• Own problem determination and resolution within expected SLA timeframes, driving root cause analysis and preventive measures.
• Lead daily operations meetings (absent active P1 incidents).
• Support identification of problem management trends.

Required Technical & Professional Expertise

• 9+ years of experience in Mainframe Storage Administration.
• Hands‑on experience with DASD and tape data storage solutions, including configuration and migration for mainframe environments.
• Working knowledge of the z/OS operating system, z/OS (MVS) fundamentals, and storage fundamentals/devices.
• Strong knowledge of: TSO, ISPF, JCL, VSAM, SMF, JES2, catalogs, datasets (PS/PDS/PDSE/GDG), REXX, SAS, SDSF, and spool.
• Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience in mainframe tape & DASD management, including: DFSMS, DFSMShsm, DFSMSdss, DFSMSdfp, DFSMSrmm, ICF catalog, VSAM, IDCAMS, CA products (CA Disk, CA Allocate, CA‑1), FDR products, Omegamon XE (or similar storage monitoring tools), ICKDSF, space abends, and SMF/DCOLLECT/BVIR reporting.

Preferred Technical & Professional Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience providing technical support for production mainframe environments spanning multiple LPARs, CECs, DASD, and VTS controllers.
• Experience in storage box data migration (DASD-to-DASD and tape-to-tape) and storage replication.
• Willingness to work across US, European, and Asia-Pacific customer hours, including weekends/holidays as part of an on‑call rotation.
