Job summary

The AES Group is seeking a Mainframe DBA in Bengaluru to manage IMS v15 and DB2 z/OS v12 databases, with involvement in migrations toward Postgres and zDB2 v13. The role covers development, testing, pre-prod, and production data-sharing environments, supporting high-availability systems.

You will design, tune, and secure IMS/DB2 databases, migrate data where needed, and mentor junior DBAs in a fast-paced enterprise environment.

Qualifications

• 5–9 years of experience as a Database Administrator with hands-on IMS and DB2 z/OS expertise.
• Strong working knowledge of IMS FF/FP databases.
• Proven experience in mainframe database performance tuning and access path optimization.
• Hands-on experience with BMC Admin Toolset (Change Manager), IBM Data Studio, and IBM Visual Studio.
• Familiarity with IBM/BMC utilities for IMS and DB2 z/OS.
• Understanding of DB2/VSAM-to-UTS conversion concepts (preferred).
• Exposure to z/OS-to-Postgres or other cloud/open-platform migration work (preferred).
• Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize IMS and DB2 z/OS databases across the full environment lifecycle.
• Perform mainframe access path re-engineering and optimization for large-scale databases.
• Convert logical database models to physical implementations.
• Administer database security in line with zDBMS standards.
• Execute backups, reorganizations, database analysis, diagnosis, and error resolution.
• Drive automation and implement new database features/capabilities.
• Support application migration from z/OS to Postgres.
• Convert VSAM tablespaces to Universal Table Space in preparation for zDB2 v13.
• Provide production support for critical applications spanning tens of thousands of database instances.
• Mentor and guide junior DBAs

About the Role

We are hiring a Mainframe DBA to manage and optimize mission-critical IMS v15 and DB2 z/OS v12 databases supporting core business applications, while also contributing to active modernization initiatives — including migration from z/OS to Postgres and preparation for zDB2 v13. This role spans dev, test, pre-prod, and production data-sharing environments and supports high-volume, high-availability systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize IMS and DB2 z/OS databases across the full environment lifecycle
• Perform mainframe access path re-engineering and optimization for large-scale databases
• Convert logical database models to physical implementations
• Administer database security in line with zDBMS standards
• Execute backups, reorganizations, database analysis, diagnosis, and error resolution
• Drive automation and implement new database features/capabilities
• Support application migration from z/OS to Postgres
• Convert VSAM tablespaces to Universal Table Space in preparation for zDB2 v13 and petabyte-scale data growth
• Provide production support for critical applications including WCC Services, Acquisitions, Remittances, Accounts Receivable, Merchant, Loyalty, and Corporate systems (spanning tens of thousands of database instances)
• Mentor and guide junior DBAs
