As a Senior Network Plan & Build Engineer, you will play a key role in future growth and decisions around how and where we deploy our network and perimeter infrastructure that enable our highly distributed global business for site, fleet, asset, and IoT connectivity, required to deliver against our integrator business strategy.
Scope
All data networks provided to Maersk across Enterprise Edge (offices, warehouses, terminals, vessels) and the perimeter services that protect and enable them including but not limited to:
- Wireless Transport: Satellite | 4G/LTE | 5G
- IoT Networking Solutions: Industrial Wi-Fi
- WAN: Internet | IP/MPLS | Next-Gen/SD WAN
- LAN: DC Networking | SDN | Fixed & Wireless
- Perimeter: Load balancers | NG Firewalls | Security Service Edge
- Time Synchronisation: GPS | Grand Master Clocks
Specific Job Requirements
- Perform network planning to ensure appropriate dimensioning, capacity, loading, diversity and parameter configurations, across Enterprise Edge, Network Edge and Cloud Networking domains to meet the target network and perimeter infrastructure build requirements.
- Support the release of engineering designs produced by Network Product Engineering to colleagues in Service Design & Delivery and into major cross technology programmes including quality measurements, engineering amendments and driving best practice.
- Support any live queries from Network Delivery Managers and Technical Project Managers during build to ensure we scale out our network and perimeter infrastructure to time, cost and quality.
- Work with Network Product Engineering peers, portfolio and service delivery teams to define the implementation roadmap, and scope plan and build sprints to deliver faster business outcomes across all network consumption domains.
- Maintain accurate records of network topology and network inventory and ensure capacity is made available to support the needs of the business.
- Work across Network Product Engineering to continually identify and implement improvements across the planning process operation, to ensure that business objectives and outcomes are in lockstep with strategic goals.
- Lead the CAB (Change Advisory Board) and ECAB (Emergency Change Advisory Board) process for all network and perimeter change requests, providing assessment from both a business and technical perspective.
- Calculate the risks associated with change and present stakeholders with evidence and supporting documentation on why the risk is or isn’t worth taking, including the benefits of the change or the reasons for rejecting it.
- Prioritize and schedule change requests; communicate outcomes by creating documentation of the evaluation of changes irrespective of them being a success, failure, or pending.
- Take responsibility for continuous improvement initiatives in the change enablement process, maintain standards for change, monitor progress and provide feedback.
- Assess release readiness of network, perimeter and underpinning technology infrastructure and software using both manual and automated validation methods.
- Maintain, analyze and extend our release validation framework across physical infrastructure, virtual infrastructure and the software stack of network elements including the element managers themselves.
- Ensure the successful incremental plan, build and release management of the current capability stack while modernizing and transforming to enable the future strategy.
- Regularly provide a transparent view of plan, build and release management commitments.
The Candidate
To be considered for this opportunity candidates will have the following capabilities:
- A demonstrable track record operating as a Network and Perimeter subject matter expert with 10+ years’ experience in engineering, operations and planning within a multi-vendor and or multi-MSP production environments in a globally focused business.
- Extensive experience of executing network infrastructure build and release management within a Systems Integrator, Service Provider, Network Technology Vendor or Multi-National Corporation.
- Professional knowledge and expertise using multi-layer heterogeneous network design & planning tools and understanding how a design is critical to a successful build.
- Proven experience of defining and maintaining standards, planning and policy development.
- Solid knowledge in networks and the supporting ecosystem, experienced in engaging on network topics at all levels internally and externally.
- Extensive experience of working in an ITIL aligned IT operational environment.
- Experience of leading and operating an IT Change Management function.
- ITIL 4 Advanced Qualification or ITIL V3 Expert, ITIL V2 Practitioner certification.
- Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels and experience of customer-focused service delivery.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and a can-do attitude with a growth mindset.
