Job summary

String Bio in Bengaluru is seeking a hands-on Bioprocess Technician to perform diverse lab bench-scale experiments, fermentation work, and downstream processing.

You will operate bioreactors and related equipment, conduct analytical assays, collect data, and maintain detailed records while following safety and quality protocols.

Qualifications

• ITI or Diploma in a technical field relevant to bioprocessing.
• Hands-on experience in bioprocessing, fermentation, downstream processing or related equipment preferred.
• Experience with standard analytical and process lab equipment desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of laboratory and bench-scale bioprocess experiments.
• Conduct fermentation experiments to optimize productivity and product performance.
• Execute downstream processing activities including harvesting, centrifugation, filtration and drying.
• Operate bioreactors, centrifuges, filtration systems and other processing equipment.
• Conduct biochemical assays and collect/process data with basic analysis.

Job description

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform a wide range of laboratory and bench-scale bioprocess experiments.
• Conduct fermentation experiments using shake flasks, bench-scale, and pilot-scale bioreactors to optimize processes and achieve improved productivity and product performance.
• Execute downstream processing activities including harvesting, sedimentation, centrifugation, filtration, concentration, separation, drying, and packaging.
• Operate and handle laboratory and pilot-scale process equipment, including bioreactors, centrifuges, filtration systems, evaporators, dryers, and other processing equipment.
• Conduct biochemical and analytical assays for process and product evaluation.
• Perform sample collection, process monitoring, data collection, recording, and basic data analysis.
• Prepare media, process solutions, and batches; perform cleaning, sterilization, calibration, and routine equipment checks as required.
• Perform sample processing, biochemical assays, product/substrate profiling, growth analysis, and in-process testing.
• Operate equipment safely and responsibly and support routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Execute assigned experiments independently with minimal supervision while adhering to established protocols.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive experimental, process, and equipment records.
• Contribute to experimental planning, execution, data interpretation, and required technical documentation.
• Collaborate effectively with peers, floor managers, scientists, and cross-functional R&D and scale-up teams.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment and comply with EHS and laboratory safety standards.
• Work will be on shift basis on weekly rotation.
• Responsible for safe material handling, movement, storage, and proper placement of materials and equipment within the facility.
• Maintain clean, organized, and hygienic work areas, including routine housekeeping and cleaning of the workplace and equipment as per established procedures.

CANDIDATE PROFILE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• ITI, Diploma, or other relevant technical qualifications.
• Candidates with relevant hands-on experience in bioprocessing, fermentation, downstream processing, food processing, drying, separation, packaging, or process equipment operation are preferred.
• Experience in handling standard analytical, biological, wet-chemistry, and process laboratory equipment is desirable.
• Basic knowledge or hands-on experience in aseptic techniques and classical microbiology practices is desirable.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and basic data recording/handling.
