Overview

Machine Learning Scientist I, Predictive Search & Guidance at Wayfair. Location: Bangalore, India (candidates preferred to be based in Bangalore and will follow their team's hybrid work schedule).

What you’ll do

• Design, build, deploy and refine large-scale machine learning/AI models and algorithmic decision-making systems that solve real-world problems for customers.


• Work cross-functionally with commercial stakeholders, engineers, analysts, and product managers to understand business problems or opportunities and develop appropriately scoped ML solutions.


• Collaborate with infrastructure and ML platform teams to develop production-grade services that follow best practices for building and deploying scalable ML services.


• Build robust ML models and systems that directly impact our customers daily.


• Identify new opportunities and insights from data (e.g., where models can be improved and estimating ROI of proposed changes).


• Maintain a customer-centric lens in framing and solving problems.

What you’ll need

• 1+ years of industry experience with a Master’s or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.


• Proficiency in Python ML ecosystem (numpy, pandas, sklearn, XGBoost, etc.).


• Strong theoretical understanding and hands-on experience with machine learning algorithms.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to synthesize conclusions for non-experts, and bias toward simplicity and efficiency.


• Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for continuous learning.

Nice to have

• Experience or strong understanding of search, recommendations, and ranking in an e-commerce setting is a plus.


• Apache Spark (Spark SQL, MLlib/Spark ML) or Java experience.


• Familiarity with cloud-based compute (GCP, AWS, or Azure), ML model development frameworks, and ML orchestration tools (Airflow, Kubeflow, Vertex AI, etc.).


• Experience with Kubernetes and Docker.


• Track record of publishing or work projects showing ability to develop cutting-edge AI systems.
