Job summary

AMD is seeking a Linux Kernel Scheduler / Performance Lead in Bengaluru, India, to design and develop core kernel features for the Linux kernel and related open‑source projects. You will work with the upstream Linux Kernel community to merge features into mainline, focusing on scheduler performance and scalability for AMD EPYC CPUs.

The role requires 15+ years of kernel development experience and strong C/x86 assembly skills, with leadership in open‑source workflows.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of Linux kernel development experience.
  • Strong OS fundamentals with Linux kernel focus.
  • Expert knowledge of the Linux community and open‑source development workflow.
  • Highly skilled in C and x86 assembly programming for kernel and systems development.
  • Understanding of low‑level software such as BIOS/UEFI/firmware is a strong advantage.
  • Exposure to KVM/QEMU, including x86‑64 virtualization extensions, is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with the GNU toolchain and git.
  • Deep understanding of operating system concepts, data structures, and at least one general‑purpose processor architecture.

  • Join the Linux Scheduler and Performance/Scalability focused team to enhance and optimize the Linux kernel for AMD EPYC CPUs.
  • Drive features and functionality to partner technical teams and the Linux kernel community.
  • Review code, build unit tests, and write detailed documentation.
  • Collaborate across the stack with hardware, firmware and power‑aware application stack teams.
  • Lead collaborative approaches with global teams.

Linux Kernel Scheduler / Performance Lead
The Role

The AMD Server Software and Solution engineering team is seeking a passionate Linux Kernel Engineer in our Linux Server Operating Systems team. You will design and develop core CPU and SOC features for the Linux kernel and related open‑source projects, work with the upstream Linux Kernel community to get these features merged into the mainline kernel, and focus on Linux scheduler performance and scalability to support AMD EPYC CPUs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Join the Linux Scheduler and Performance/Scalability focused team to enhance and optimize the Linux kernel for AMD EPYC CPUs.
  • Drive features and functionality to partner technical teams and the Linux kernel community.
  • Support the solutions offered by partner companies; review code, build unit tests, and write detailed documentation.
  • Collaborate across the stack with hardware, firmware and power‑aware application stack teams.
  • Lead collaborative approaches with global teams.
Preferred Experience
  • 15+ years of Linux kernel development experience.
  • Deep understanding of operating systems, with emphasis on Linux kernel, and proven leadership in kernel development.
  • Expert knowledge of the Linux community and open‑source development workflow.
  • Highly skilled in C and x86 assembly programming for kernel and systems development.
  • Understanding of low‑level software such as BIOS/UEFI/firmware is a strong advantage.
  • Exposure to KVM/QEMU, including x86‑64 virtualization extensions, is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with the GNU toolchain and git.
  • Deep understanding of operating system concepts, data structures, and at least one general‑purpose processor architecture (knowledge of x86‑64 architecture is a bonus).
  • A keen eye to learn and absorb new concepts.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Academic Credentials
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering (master’s preferred).
