Job Description: Librarian & Storyteller (Nursery – Grade V)

Job Purpose

The Librarian & Storyteller will be responsible for managing the junior school library and fostering a love for reading, imagination, and language among students from Nursery to Grade V. The role aims to develop early literacy habits through engaging storytelling sessions, structured reading programs, and effective library management.

Library Management & Operations
  • Organize, catalogue, and maintain age-appropriate books and learning resources.
  • Manage issue, return, and record-keeping of library materials.
  • Maintain a child-friendly, safe, and welcoming library environment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and management for procurement of books and resources.
Reading Promotion & Storytelling
  • Conduct regular storytelling sessions using voice modulation, expressions, and props.
  • Encourage reading habits through book talks, reading challenges, and library activities.
  • Introduce students to different genres, authors, and cultures.
  • Support phonics, vocabulary, and language development through stories.
  • Align library programs with the school’s academic curriculum.
  • Support classroom teachers with reference materials and reading resources.
  • Collaborate in planning literacy-based projects and events.
Student Engagement & Development
  • Guide students in book selection based on reading level and interest.
  • Track reading progress and participation in library programs.
  • Encourage responsible handling of books and library discipline.
Professional Collaboration & Events
  • Work closely with teachers, coordinators, and management.
  • Organize book fairs, reading weeks, author interactions, and literacy events.
  • Participate in trainings, workshops, and school activities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science (B.Lib / B.Lib.I.Sc) or equivalent.
  • Degree/Diploma in Education / Early Childhood Education (preferred).
  • Certification in storytelling / child literature (desirable).
Experience
