Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage all legal matters related to insurance operations, including regulatory compliance, product documentation, claims, distribution partnerships, hospitals, clinics, TPA, broking, and agency models.
  • Draft, review, and vet a wide variety of agreements (distribution, SaaS, tech, partner, employment, customer, vendor, NDAs, etc.) to ensure company interests are protected and legal risks are minimized.
  • Collaborate closely with internal business, finance, product, and technology teams to enable product launches, customer experience enhancements, and digital insurance innovations within regulatory boundaries.
  • Act as a primary liaison with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and relevant regulatory bodies; manage regulatory filings and correspondence.
  • Advise management on compliance requirements impacting insurance broking, agents, TPAs, hospitals, and clinics, and maintain an up-to-date compliance calendar covering all applicable statutes.
  • Manage and resolve disputes, claims, litigation, and coordinate with external lawyers for efficient handling and closure of legal cases.
  • Track legal and regulatory developments impacting the insurtech, healthtech, and insurance sectors, and proactively update policies and internal controls.
  • Develop and deliver compliance training and legal awareness initiatives for employees and business partners.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized university;
  • 6+ years of progressive legal experience preferably in the insurance industry (insurer, broker, TPA, or legal consultancy), with at least 2 years at a technology-driven company or startup.
  • Proven experience in drafting and vetting a broad set of contracts and commercial agreements.
  • Deep practical knowledge of IRDAI (insurance), broking, agency, TPA, and health compliance frameworks in India.
  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory liaison, compliance audits, and handling legal aspects of partnerships with hospitals/clinics/TPAs/corporate agents.
  • Having a company secretarial compliance knowledge is an added advantage.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong contract drafting, legal research, and negotiation skills.
  • In-depth understanding of insurance and healthtech regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for cross-functional collaboration and regulatory engagements.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and respond to fast-moving business situations with pragmatic legal solutions.
  • Strong ethics, analytical bent of mind, and commitment to compliance culture.
