Mercados Energy Markets India Pvt. Ltd. in New Delhi invites a legal and regulatory professional to assist on assignments across power generation, transmission, and distribution sectors, including policy and tariff matters.

You will prepare petitions, orders, pleadings, and provide regulatory due diligence, research case laws, and offer techno-commercial insights. Travel to project sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in regulatory matters in electricity value chain.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments with analytical problem-solving.
• Strong drafting, filing, and legal opinion writing.
• Proficiency in English drafting and articulation.
• Knowledge of financial/tariff modelling for power utilities.
• Experience with case laws and regulatory commissions.

Description du poste

The candidate should be able to assist in execution of assignments in Legal, Regulatory, Policy, Tariff, or Commercial related matters pertaining to Power Sector-Generation / Transmission / Distribution Utilities. The person will be responsible for the preparation of Petitions/ Orders/Pleadings involving Capital Investment, ARR, Tariff, FSA, Power Procurement/ PPA, and so on and so forth. The candidate should be well-versed with the legal, regulatory aspects as well as financial aspects required for undertaking such engagements. Advising on the amendments to different Regulations, Acts, Policies, and Plan etc. and periodic review of regulatory developments in SERC/CERC/CEA/ MOP would also be required.

Detailed expectations from the role:

• Should be able to do multi-tasking on assignments and be able to deliver in typical consulting environment involving legal issues.
• Should develop strong set of techno-commercial competencies, thought leadership and people leadership, client focus and relationship building.
• Should acquire basic knowledge of financial/tariff modelling of Power Utilities and shall be able to deal in legal issues involving policy/ regulatory matters, tariff matters, regulatory due-diligence, power purchase, PPA scrutiny & review, techno-commercial aspects of power business.
• Shall be able to extensive research on case laws and shall be able to include them in the ongoing assignments.
• Perform work given by Directors/Seniors which may include working on legal research, drafting petitions, replies, rejoinders and pleadings etc.
• Develop understanding of the power sector across domains including policy and regulatory, bid process, renewable, etc.
• Litigation support in appropriate commission; APTEL; Supreme Court.

Required skill set

• Proven experience in handling regulatory matters within the electricity sector across Generation/Transmission/Distribution/Trading.
• Ability to work on multiple engagements and priorities task efficiency.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal, Communication skills and collaboration abilities.
• Proficiency in undertaking research on legal database
• Proficiency in English- drafting and articulation.
• Ability to analyse, tackle matters independently and prepare legal opinion therein.
• Strong legal acumen and general understanding of regulatory process of quasi-judicial bodies.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Power point. Excel is optional but preferred)

• Candidates with relevant experience to be given priority

Location

• Base location shall be New Delhi. However, the role would require the applicant to undertake travel for execution of the assignment as per the requirement.
