About the Role

As the Director – Data Science, you will lead Upstox’s data science and AI roadmap — driving innovation, automation, and intelligence across our product ecosystem. You’ll build and scale advanced machine learning models, Generative AI applications, and LLM-based solutions that power personalised experiences, intelligent recommendations, and data-driven decision-making across the company. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who combines deep technical expertise with business acumen, strategic vision, and a passion for building high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-End Model Development: Lead the design, training, deployment, and optimisation of ML and GenAI models for critical business use cases.
• LLM & GenAI Integration: Architect and implement solutions leveraging LLMs (e.g., GPT, Claude, LLaMA) for personalisation, summarisation, and intelligent automation.
• Data Strategy & Insights: Partner with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritise opportunities where data science delivers measurable business value.
• Experimentation & Optimisation: Design and execute A/B experiments to validate hypotheses and enhance user experiences.
• Scalability & Performance: Ensure models are production-ready, explainable, and scalable across millions of users.
• Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing data science team that thrives on experimentation and innovation.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to transform insights into impactful outcomes.

Who You Are

• 10+ years of experience in Machine Learning, AI, or Data Science, ideally in a high-scale, product-led organisation.
• Proven expertise in LLMs and Generative AI, including fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and integrating models into production systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, Hugging Face, or similar frameworks.
• Deep understanding of NLP, deep learning architectures, and ML Ops pipelines.
• Skilled in data analysis, feature engineering, model evaluation, and production deployment.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to translate business needs into technical execution.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related fields from a Tier-1 institute (IIT, IISc, BITS, ISI, etc.) preferred.
