Job summary

Barclays in Pune is seeking a Lead Support Engineer to drive the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, ensuring robust, scalable, and secure systems that power digital solutions.

You will monitor complex IT environments, own incident response, and collaborate with front-office and operations teams to improve observability, automations, and risk controls across markets and investment banking domains.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an application support role with ITIL processes.
  • Knowledge of SQL and database technologies; Unix/Windows environments.
  • Understanding of FIX protocols and trading/markets domain is a plus.
  • Experience with monitoring and configuration tools (ITRS Geneos, Autosys).
  • Familiarity with service management tools like ServiceNow and Git-based workflows.
  • Ability to work in a business-facing front-office support role and manage client communications.
  • Experience with observability, alerting, and automation to improve stability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for complex issues for specific clients or groups.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and monitor systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain knowledge base with resolved cases for self-service and sharing.
  • Analyze logs and user reports to identify root causes and resolve hardware/software issues.
  • Drive automation, monitoring enhancements, capacity management, and resiliency.
  • Identify risks and remediation steps; coordinate with processes for governance.
  • Tune monitoring thresholds and alerts to improve issue detection.

Job description

Join us as a Lead Support Engineer at Barclays where you will spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to build and manage robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure, ensuring seamless delivery of our digital solutions.

To be successful as a Lead Support Engineer , you should have experience with:

  • Experience in application support role and have knowledge of ITIL processes
  • Technical experience with high proficiency in SQL, Database Technologies, Unix, Windows, preferably in Markets & Investment Banking domain
  • Understanding of FIX protocols
  • Experience of monitoring configuration and setup using ITRS Geneos
  • Experience with ITIL concepts and best practices. Experience of using configuration management and reporting tools such as Service First/Service Now
  • Experience in a business facing front office application support role and managing client communication
  • Experience in batch monitoring tools such as Autosys, including troubleshooting/debugging
  • Deep familiarity with observability strategy - not just tooling - including alert quality, signal hygiene, and early-warning design
Some Other Highly Valued Skills May Include
  • Good understanding of ITIL methodologies as applicable to application management function
  • Good understanding of different Investment Banking products and Trade Life Cycle.
  • Experience in some object oriented /scripting technologies like (one or more) Python, Shell, Java, SQL, Web services etc.
  • Experience of working with structured and/or unstructured databases like Oracle, MSSQL
  • Competence in standard tool set: GIT, DevOps continuous integration, JIRA

The role is based out of Pune.

Purpose of the role

To effectively monitor and maintain the bank’s critical technology infrastructure and resolve more complex technical issues, whilst minimising disruption to operations.

Accountabilities
  • Provision of technical support for the service management function to resolve more complex issues for a specific client of group of clients. Develop the support model and service offering to improve the service to customers and stakeholders.
  • Execution of preventative maintenance tasks on hardware and software and utilisation of monitoring tools/metrics to identify, prevent and address potential issues and ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintenance of a knowledge base containing detailed documentation of resolved cases for future reference, self-service opportunities and knowledge sharing.
  • Analysis of system logs, error messages and user reports to identify the root causes of hardware, software and network issues, and providing a resolution to these issues by fixing or replacing faulty hardware components, reinstalling software, or applying configuration changes.
  • Automation, monitoring enhancements, capacity management, resiliency, business continuity management, front office specific support and stakeholder management.
  • Identification and remediation or raising, through appropriate process, of potential service impacting risks and issues.
  • Proactively assess support activities implementing automations where appropriate to maintain stability and drive efficiency. Actively tune monitoring tools, thresholds, and alerting to ensure issues are known when they occur.
