Job summary

U.S. Bancorp India is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to design, build, and scale AI platforms and DevEx capabilities. This senior individual contributor role includes ownership, technical leadership, and cross-team influence.

Job Description

We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to play a key role in designing, building, and scaling AI platforms and Developer Experience (DevEx) capabilities. This is a senior individual contributor role with increased ownership, technical leadership, and influence across teams.

You will lead the development of complex solutions, partner with architects and engineering leaders, and mentor junior engineers while contributing hands‑on to critical initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Design & Development

  • Design, develop, test, operate, and maintain scalable, high-performance software systems
  • Take ownership of end‑to‑end delivery for complex features and systems, including architecture and design decisions
  • Write high‑quality, production‑ready, and testable code across services and platforms
  • Ensure solutions meet standards for scalability, reliability, performance, and security

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Software Engineers and Software Engineers 2
  • Lead code reviews, establish engineering best practices, and drive continuous improvement
  • Partner with Technology Architects to influence architecture decisions and technical direction
  • Act as a technical lead on projects or initiatives within the team

Engineering Excellence & Operations

  • Drive improvements in code quality, testing, automation, and DevOps practices
  • Perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot complex production issues, and implement long‑term fixes
  • Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and risk management standards in all development activities
  • Contribute to operational excellence, including system reliability and performance tuning

Collaboration & Delivery

  • Collaborate with product, design, QA, DevOps, and platform teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions [linkedin.com]
  • Participate in Agile delivery processes and help drive execution against commitments
  • Communicate technical design, trade‑offs, risks, and progress effectively to stakeholders

AI & Developer Experience Focus

  • Lead development of AI‑enabled applications, services, or platform capabilities
  • Design and enhance developer productivity tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies to improve engineering velocity and product quality

Ownership & Innovation

  • Own significant components or services, driving improvements and modernization efforts
  • Contribute to innovation and adoption of emerging technologies aligned with enterprise strategy
  • Support knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience
  • Strong experience in modern programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#)
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycle, Agile, and DevOps practices
  • Working knowledge of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver scalable, production‑grade systems

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and distributed systems
  • Experience with AI/ML or GenAI‑based solutions
  • Experience driving adoption of AI coding tools within engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, APIs, and event‑driven systems
  • Experience with CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure automation
  • Exposure to Developer Experience (DevEx) tooling and platform engineering
  • Experience working in regulated environments (financial services preferred)
