Qualifications

SMTS SOFTWARE SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER

THE ROLE:

We are seeking an engineer to join our team that will thrive in a fast-paced work environment, using effective communication, problem-solving and prioritization skills. Individuals that are well organized, show great attention to detail, and employ critical thinking are well-suited for our team.

THE PERSON:

• A senior-level person who can guide the team, mentor upcoming developers, provide long-range strategy, and jump in to resolve issues quickly. Involved in all areas impacting the team — performance, automation and development — informed on latest trends and prepared to give consultative direction to senior management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Strong desire to learn new skills and understand new features as they are added
• Proven record of working within and across groups; effective communication
• Explore opportunities to improve the product
• Work closely with team members to understand design architecture and propose solutions to improve/enhance products
• Design and develop software applications for Windows and Linux
• Formulate technical vision and strategy to meet business goals
• Mentor software developers on sound design and coding practices
• Prepare architectural documents
• Participate in code, design and architectural reviews
• Improve software using design patterns, refactoring, etc.
• Contribute to release planning and estimation of software modules/feature

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Strong in C#, .NET Core, SQL Server, C++
• Storng understanding and exposure to hardware protocols like JTAG, I2C, I3C etc...
• Application development for Web and Desktop; cross-platform apps using .NET Core
• Excellent troubleshooting skills; performance and scalability improvement
• Unit testing frameworks
• Good written/oral communication and presentation skills; good interpersonal and organizational skills
• Experience using AI development tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, and Codex to enhance software engineering productivity.
• Knowledge of prompt engineering and AI-assisted development practices.
• Experience building or integrating AI agents, agentic workflows, or LLM-based applications is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with modern AI frameworks and APIs is desirable.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field with about11–20 yearsof relevant work experience.
