Job Summary

OpenEye Scientific has developed the field’s most advanced large‑scale compute platform, Orion, built on Amazon Web Services. In this role, you will work at the cutting edge of cloud computing, C++/Python development, and advanced MD simulation techniques. Your work will have the potential to make a major impact in drug discovery and will be available to many pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

Scientists around the world use Orion for early‑stage drug discovery and design in the pursuit of improving human health. Orion combines the power of advanced HPC, computational methods, and in‑browser 3D visualisation & modelling to solve problems in drug discovery & design. Our solutions enable customers to routinely model billions of compounds in‑silico, interactively explore chemical space, evaluate designs and gain scientific understanding.

Responsibilities

As a Back‑End Engineer, you will work with designers, scientists, and software engineers to enhance and extend Orion’s capabilities. You will architect and optimise the high‑performance compute and storage systems that power groundbreaking scientific discoveries. You will also help modernise existing software and build cutting‑edge features.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering, biology/chemistry or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience designing, developing, troubleshooting and debugging complex distributed systems.
• Expertise in Python, pytest, packaging, and Django.
• Expertise in GoLang, testing, packaging, client/server, and familiarity with writing servers/clients.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, SQLite, relational‑database optimisation and structural design.
• Experience in Life Sciences, HPC, AWS, Docker, and containerised systems.
• Experience with unit & end‑to‑end testing, CI/CD, source control, code review and comfortable using command line interfaces.
• Strong background in computer‑science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms).
• Passionate about learning new technologies and demonstrating good analysis and problem‑solving skills.
