Job summary

Atlas Copco Group in Pune is seeking a Lead Engineer / Senior Engineer to own the design, development, and lifecycle support of energy and power equipment including compressors, pumps, gensets, and related systems. You will lead NPD, product care, sustaining engineering, and design modifications across the full engineering lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• 5-8 years (Senior Engineer) / 8-12 years (Lead Engineer) of experience in Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Design Engineering, or Product Development.
• Strong experience in New Product Development (NPD), Product Care, Sustaining Engineering, Product Enhancement, and Design Modification projects.
• Strong domain knowledge of compressors, pumps, gensets, rotating equipment, power systems, energy equipment, or heavy industrial products.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain 3D models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation using Autodesk Inventor and associated CAD tools.
• Lead design activities for New Product Development (NPD), product enhancement, redesign, and customization projects.

Job Description/Mission

As a Lead Engineer / Senior Engineer within our Product Engineering team, you will be responsible for the design, development, enhancement, and lifecycle support of energy and power equipment including compressors, pumps, gensets, and related systems. The role requires end-to-end ownership of engineering activities across New Product Development (NPD), product care, sustaining engineering, product upgrades, and design modifications.

Your role

As a Lead Engineer / Senior Engineer within our Product Engineering team, you will be responsible for the design, development, enhancement, and lifecycle support of energy and power equipment including compressors, pumps, gensets, and related systems. The role requires end-to-end ownership of engineering activities across New Product Development (NPD), product care, sustaining engineering, product upgrades, and design modifications. You will act as a system-level engineer, translating customer, manufacturing, quality, and field requirements into robust engineering solutions. The position requires strong hands-on design expertise, advanced CAD skills, problem-solving capability, and the ability to manage design projects from concept through production support while ensuring product performance, quality, reliability, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Focus

• Develop and maintain 3D models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation using Autodesk Inventor and associated CAD tools.


• Execute product design and development activities throughout the complete engineering lifecycle.


• Lead design activities for New Product Development (NPD), product enhancement, redesign, and customization projects.


• Drive product care and sustaining engineering initiatives for released products.


• Analyze production, assembly, testing, and field-related issues and implement effective design improvements.


• Perform root cause analysis (RCA), corrective actions, and design validation activities.


• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, CAD standards, design rules, and company procedures.


• Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and service teams to deliver practical and cost-effective engineering solutions


• Interface directly with suppliers and vendors to resolve technical issues, review designs, and improve manufacturability.


• Support prototype builds, product testing, inspections, commissioning activities, and product release processes.


• Participate in VA/VE, reliability improvement, cost optimization, and standardization initiatives.


• Manage engineering deliverables, schedules, risks, and technical documentation

• Follow Atlas Copco design codes, standards, work instructions & check lists of the tasks handled and carry out the checking. Ensure adherence to Quality Norms as set by the Project leader from time to time.


• Continually innovate the ideas to improve the Quality aspect of engineering.


• Create & Promote use of reusable components, product platforms, Subassemblies, Modular Designs

Knowledge/Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering.


• 5-8 years (Senior Engineer) / 8-12 years (Lead Engineer) of experience in Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Design Engineering, or Product Development.


• Strong experience in New Product Development (NPD), Product Care, Sustaining Engineering, Product Enhancement, and Design Modification projects.


• Strong domain knowledge of compressors, pumps, gensets, rotating equipment, power systems, energy equipment, or heavy industrial products.

• Experience with PLM systems such as Enovia, Windchill, Teamcenter, or equivalent.


• Strong understanding of engineering change management, configuration management, and product lifecycle processes.


• Experience working with suppliers/vendors for technical issue resolution and design implementation.


• Proven experience in root cause analysis, failure investigation, corrective actions, and product reliability improvements.


• Experience managing engineering projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.

Added Advantage

• Programming/scripting skills (Python preferred) for automation/data integration.


• Exposure to CAD automation tools and methods (iLogic, API development).
