Job summary

Larsen & Toubro is seeking an experienced Lead Design Engineer for Primary Design Engineering of AIS/GIS Substation projects. The role spans from pre-bid engineering to commissioning and warranty support across multiple geographies.

The candidate will plan man-hours, monitor progress, review drawings and calculations, and mentor a team of Design Engineers and Draughtspersons to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables in line with project standards.

Qualifications

• BE/BTech in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
• 7–10 years of Substation primary design engineering experience.
• Experience with AIS/GIS systems for substations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute primary design engineering for AIS/GIS Substation projects across geographies.
• Manage deliverables from pre-bid to commissioning and warranty support.
• Plan man-hours, monitor progress, coordinate with inter-departmental teams.
• Review and approve drawings, design calculations, vendor deliverables, and BOQs.
• Oversee Layout Engineering, SLDs, Earthing, Cable Routing, Lighting, and Lightning Protection.
• Coordinate vendor evaluation, technical validation, inspections, and discussions with procurement.
• Mentor Design Engineers and Draughtspersons to improve productivity and quality.
• Provide clarifications to clients and support site teams during execution.
• Utilize MS Office, Dialux; exposure to ETAP, PSCAD, and CYMGRD.

• Perform and oversee Layout Engineering, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), Earthing Design, Cable Routing, Lighting Systems, Lightning Protection Systems, and Equipment Layout Engineering.

• Coordinate vendor evaluation, technical validation, factory inspections, and technical discussions, while working closely with procurement and supply chain teams.
• Lead and mentor Design Engineers and Draughtspersons, driving productivity improvements, maintaining design quality, and ensuring adherence to project schedules.
• Provide technical clarifications to clients and internal stakeholders, support site teams during execution, and resolve design-related issues to facilitate smooth project implementation.
• Utilize tools such as MS Office and Dialux for engineering activities; exposure to ETAP,

PSCAD, and CYMGRD will be considered an added advantage.

Qualification

• B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering

Minimum Years Of Experience And Industry Preference

• 7–10 years of experience in Primary Design Engineering for Substation projects involving AIS / GIS systems.
• Proven experience in handling primary engineering activities across multiple phases of substation projects, including design, execution support, and commissioning assistance.
• Strong knowledge of substation layouts, equipment arrangements, earthing systems, cable routing, and associated design standards and practices.
• Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams, coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders, and deliver quality outputs within project timelines.
• MUST: SUBSTATION DESIGN EXPERIENCE.
