Job summary

Siemens Energy India Limited is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to drive primary HV substation designs, deliver layouts and calculations, and coordinate with clients and project teams. The role emphasizes robust engineering input, safety, and adherence to standards across multiple interfaces.

The ideal candidate brings 10–20 years of HV design experience, strong knowledge of T&D standards, and proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Visio and E3D.

Qualifications

• 10–20 years of design experience within the HV substation business.
• Fully conversant with latest T&D standards and relevant specs (IS, IEC, IEEE, NBC, etc.).
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, Visio and E3D for design delivery.
• Knowledge of CDM health and safety regulations for HV substation projects.
• Strong IT literacy and ability to produce clear documentation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality primary designs, including SLDs, layouts and sections for HV substations.
• Prepare and review design calculations (bus bar sizing, short circuit, grounding).
• Review supplier drawings and prepare HV equipment specifications and BOQs.
• Coordinate with clients, civil teams, project management and interfaces.
• Monitor engineering delivery progress and escalate issues per plan.
• Promote standardization and continuous improvement within the team.

Senior Design Engineer – Primary is Responsible for providing primary designs, solutions and technical input to contracts and all areas within the employee’s business area. Delivering departmental work packages on time and to budget.

How You'll Make an Impact

• To deliver a high-quality Primary design includes preparing Single line Diagram (SLD), layout and sections of switchyard, Cable Trench layout, GIS/Control Building General Arrangement drawing along with plan and sections, Cable Spread Plan for HV Cable & Tray Layout for GIS/Control Building Basement, Earthing/Lightning layout and its calculations, Illumination layout and its calculations Erection key diagram & Al Tube cutting Schedule, Hardware selections, Transformer yard layout etc.
• Design calculations for bus bar sizing, short circuit force, SAG-Tension, cantilever strength, DSLP, Grounding, Aux Transformer sizing, Battery & Battery Charger sizing, DG set sizing, UPS sizing, illumination, and Load flow study (MV & LV system).
• Preparing purchase specifications of HV equipment and reviewing suppliers offer, preparing loading data, reviewing and comment supplier’s drawings etc. for HVAC substations.
• Full Responsibility for analyzing and commenting on customer specification, writing clarifications, and seeking amendments.
• Responsible for generation of BOQ for Grounding, Cable Tray, LV power/control, Clamps & Connectors, Busbar etc.
• Should be well conversant on AutoCAD, Revit, Visio and E3D.
• Responsible for co-ordination with the client, civil, project management and other interfaces, this will be as agreed with own team leader.
• Monitoring of the engineering delivery progress as per the engineering programme of the project, escalating issues as and when required to the team leader.
• As agreed with the team leader to ensure design risk assessments/HAZID’s are in place for all design solutions and residual risk’s are passed on to the H&S file.
• To help and agree with the team leader for maintaining consistency in design.
• To support the team leader and work on the departmental improvement issues.
• Actively involve in standardization of onshore primary design as agreed with own team leader.
• Actively involve & promote Top+ business improvement programme within the team.
• Takes ownership and accountability for area of responsibility.Makes a positive contribution to the team, department.Sets own goals and clarifies expectations with the team leader. Invests time to help and facilitate the work of others as and when required.Responds to the ideas, concerns and needs of the team.Demonstrates interest in professional development to maximize own potential.
• Maintaining consistency of design on each contract by adherence to processes and procedures.
• Works collaboratively with all engineering departments and project managers within Siemens ET.
• Commitment to Siemens Think Customer initiative including excellent call handling and voice mail skills.
• Continuous reviewing of engineering processes and procedures to improve and recommend changes.

What You Bring

• Typically 10-20 years of design experience within the HV substation business.
• Good knowledge of design experience within the HV substation business.
• Fully conversant with the latest T& D standards.
• Good understanding of relevant standards & specifications (Like IS, IEC, IEEE, Electricity rules, SIGRE, CBIP, NBC, Fire safety, standard practices).
• Fully conversant with Health and safety standards including CDM regulations applicable to the design of HV substation.
• Should be well conversant in Auto CAD
• Good standard of IT literacy – especially Word, Visio and Excel.
• Good written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Degree Qualified in Electrical Engineering
