Job summary

GE Vernova in Chennai (India) is seeking an expert Senior Power Electronics Engineer to lead design and development of LV/MV drives, from sizing to testing and validation.

You will work on core power electronics, motor control concepts, and collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and project teams, with travel as needed.

The role requires a strong background in simulations (MATLAB/Simulink) and CAD tools (AutoCAD, E‑Plan), and a track record of delivering robust, cost-aware designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or master's degree in Power Electronics or Electrical Engineering or Equivalent.
• Min. 10+ years of Power electronics design & testing expertise for Industrial drives.
• Preferred experience/knowledge in Electrical design / Simulation tools like AutoCAD / E-Plan and MATLAB/Simulink.
• In-depth knowledge of Motors /Drive control Systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead LV/MV Drive engineering and core power electronics development.
• Size drives and filters, perform loss budget calculations and protection design.
• Translate specs into designs using calculations, modeling and simulations.
• Prepare design documents and BOMs, verify prototype performance.
• Support manufacturing and coordinate cross-functional teams.

Job Description Summary

Lead Design & Development, Sizing, Simulation, Testing & Validation, Certification of LV/MV – VSD/ VFD’s.

Roles and Responsibilities

• LV/MV Drive Engineering – Core Power Electronics (AC/ DC systems)
• Drive & Filter Sizing, Product hardware design / loss budget calculation / Earth & Protection circuits /Arc Flash Calculation/ RCA.
• Understand product / project specifications and realize requirements to design using calculations, modeling and simulations.
• Design system/equipment to meet reliability, testing standards, manufacturability, material and cost guidelines
• Prepare & validate Design documents – Configurations, principles of operation, application guidelines, specifications, BOM, SLD & drawings as per requirement.
• Verify functional performance of prototype hardware under all specified operating conditions.
• Support Manufacturing of equipment at Factory / Vendor facility
• Document functional test requirements and conduct test according to applicable standards (UL/IEC etc.…) /conduct project FAT’s.
• Coordinate with System Engineer and Program / Product / Project manager execution on a continuous basis.
• May require travel as required.
