Job summary

Exponent is building the energy stack powering commercial EVs in India. We seek an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to own and deliver products including battery packs, chargers and vehicle integration kits for our e^pack and e^pump platforms.

You will lead design reviews, develop test plans, and collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize weight, cost, and reliability while maintaining rigorous DFx practices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in mechanical design, taking a product from concept to production.
• Experience with low/high voltage battery components and vehicle integration.
• Ability to perform tolerance stack analyses and test plan development.
• Strong understanding of weight, volume, thermal performance, and IP sealing considerations.

Responsibilities

• Review designs prior to release with DFx, DFM/DFA, and manufacturability context.
• Contribute to project planning including budgets, resources, timelines, and tooling.
• Review conceptual designs, calculations, and tolerance analyses.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate subsystems and full product performance.
• Conduct root cause analyses for issues during testing and field deployment.
• Collaborate with manufacturers and mold designers to refine designs based on feedback.
• Document the product development cycle from concept to production stabilization (FMEA, DFX, DVP, inspection plans).

You’ll be working with the product and engineering team. This team runs on coffee with an infectious passion to build products that have never been built before. Our Flexible Energy Stack consists of the e^pack (battery pack) and e^pump (charging station) which together unlock 15-minute rapid charging.

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with 8+ years experience to own and deliver products that enable the flexible energy stack of Exponent. This includes but is not limited to - Low voltage batteries, charges and connectors, High voltage battery, chargers and connectors and vehicle integration kits.

Responsibilities

• Review all designs under your ownership prior to release and with context of the Exponent product development framework, considering design for weight, volume, thermal performance, IP sealing among other criteria while ensuring serviceability and manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
• Contribute actively towards project and program planning - including but not limited to budgets, resources, timelines, tooling etc.
• Reviewing conceptual designs, theoretical calculations, and tolerance stack analyses.
• Developing and executing test plans to validate subsystems and full product performance.
• Conducting root cause analyses (RCAs) for issues during testing and field deployment.
• Collaborating with manufacturers, assembly teams, and mold designers to refine designs based on feedback.
• Documenting the product development cycle from concept to production stabilization (FMEA, DFX, DVP, inspection plans, etc.).

What You Bring

• Expertise in mechanical design domains - structural design, thermal systems, fluid systems and electro-mechanical packaging.
• Strong understanding of fluid systems, heat transfer (conductive/convective), and refrigeration / HVAC.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, IP sealing, and optimizing packaging for cost and performance.
• Solid knowledge of materials (Metals, Plastics, Composites, Elastomers) and their applications.
• Proven experience in taking a product from concept to production, backed by strong mathematical and analytical skills.
