About the Role
The Lead Insurance is responsible for designing and managing the organization's end-to-end insurance and risk transfer strategy across manufacturing plants and corporate operations. The role involves structuring insurance and reinsurance programs, driving cost-effective renewals, ensuring robust claims management, and building strong relationships with insurers, reinsurers and brokers, while working closely with the CFO and cross-functional teams (Legal, Procurement, Plant Finance) to align risk management with corporate financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Insurance & Reinsurance Strategy
- Design and implement the organization's overall insurance program covering property, liability, marine, employee benefits and project-specific risks across plants and Head Office.
- Structure reinsurance arrangements (proportional and non-proportional/facultative and treaty) in coordination with reinsurers to optimize risk transfer and capital efficiency.
- Evaluate risk portfolios periodically and recommend coverage enhancements or cost-optimization opportunities.
- Renewals, Negotiations & Cost Optimization
- Lead the annual renewal cycle for all insurance policies, negotiating with brokers and insurers/reinsurers to secure competitive terms.
- Drive reduction in premium costs while maintaining or improving coverage adequacy.
- Run structured RFP processes for insurance placements, ensuring layered coverage programs that balance risk retention and transfer.
- Claims Management
- Oversee end-to-end claims processes across property, liability, marine and group health/employee benefit policies.
- Ensure timely, equitable claim settlements through proactive coordination with insurers, reinsurers and third-party administrators.
- Track claims trends to identify loss-prevention opportunities and reduce claims frequency.
- Risk Portfolio & Compliance
- Maintain an updated risk register across plants and Head Office, ensuring adequate and current coverage at all times.
- Ensure compliance with applicable domestic and international insurance/reinsurance regulations and documentation standards.
- Liaise with Legal and Procurement teams to align insurance clauses in vendor and project contracts with the overall risk framework.
- Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Engagement
- Act as the primary point of contact for insurers, reinsurers and brokers, building long-term strategic relationships.
- Partner with Plant Finance Controllers and Regional/Plant Heads to ensure ground-level risk exposures are captured and insured appropriately.
- Provide periodic reporting and risk/insurance updates to the CFO and senior leadership.
Candidate Profile
- 15-20+ years of experience in insurance and risk management, preferably in manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics or industrial sectors.
- Strong expertise in underwriting, treaty and facultative reinsurance negotiations, and claims management.
- Proven track record of engaging with global reinsurers and brokers to secure competitive terms and reduce premium costs.
- Sound understanding of primary insurance and reinsurance dynamics in domestic and global markets.
- Competencies required: Reinsurance Strategy & Treaty Negotiation, Risk Portfolio Analysis, Claims Management, Broker & Reinsurer Relationship Management, Regulatory Compliance, Cross-Functional Collaboration.
