Job summary

Siemens is seeking a Lead Hardware (HW) Engineer – Rail Automation based in Pune, India. You will execute hardware engineering for interlocking and rail-automation systems, develop system hardware designs, and lead documentation for auxiliary systems and cabling.

You will coordinate with global teams to ensure compliant, safe, and reliable railroad signaling solutions. The role requires 8–10 years in railway systems, deep interlocking knowledge, and hands-on design experience with AutoCAD.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably electrical/electronic, with railways specialization.
  • 8–10 years of relevant experience in railway transportation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of interlocking and rail automation hardware.
  • Experience in HW engineering and basic design of interlocking subsystems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and hardware drawing reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Execute hardware engineering and detailed design for Interlocking and Rail Automation projects.
  • Develop and review system hardware design, architecture, and cabinet layouts.
  • Lead design documents for auxiliary systems (power, UPS, grounding, lightning).
  • Design Track Vacancy Detection systems, cable routing, and interface drawings.
  • Prepare installation drawings, Books of Circuits, and interconnection diagrams.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams for end-to-end delivery.
  • Engage with customers and partners on hardware design solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with railway standards and safety requirements.

We are looking for a Lead Hardware (HW) Engineer – Rail Automation
Work Assignments

Execute HW engineering of interlockings and other rail automation systems with special and general engineering tools & processes. Document preparation and performing reviews (e.g. specifications in requirement management, track layouts, interfaces). Customer clarification to fulfil system requirements; training and support both internally and at other locations if needed.

  • Execute hardware engineering and detailed design activities for Interlocking and Rail Automation systems for Indian and international projects.
  • Develop and review System Hardware Design including hardware architecture, equipment configuration, cabinet layouts, interface design, and integration with signaling subsystems.
  • Technically lead and Design engineering documents for Auxiliary Systems, including power distribution, UPS interfaces, battery systems, station equipment interfaces, grounding and lightning protection concepts.
  • Perform detailed engineering and design of Track Vacancy Detection (TVD) / Track Vacancy Cabinet (TVC) systems including equipment allocation, cabinet configuration, wiring, interfaces, and associated documentation.
  • Design and review Cable Rack Layouts, cable routing arrangements and equipment room layouts in compliance with project and safety requirements.
  • Prepare and review Outdoor Cable Plans, cable core allocation schedules, cable route drawings, termination schedules, and cable quantity calculations.
  • Design and engineer Disconnection Boxes (DBs) and outdoor interface equipment for railway signaling installations.
  • Experience in Network and Server Cabinet Design for railway signaling and rail automation systems, including equipment arrangement, cabinet layout preparation, power distribution, cable management, thermal considerations, grounding, and maintainability requirements.
  • Develop and maintain indoor and outdoor Books of Circuits, wiring diagrams, termination plans, interconnection diagrams, and installation drawings.
  • Coordinate with system, Hardware, test, installation, and commissioning teams to ensure end-to-end project delivery.
  • Support technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and international engineering partners regarding hardware design solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable railway standards, customer specifications, quality processes, and safety requirements.

    • Interface Engineering with signaling subsystems such as Point Machines, Signals, Axle Counters, Track Circuits, Level Crossings and CTC systems.
    • Preparation and review of installation, as-built and engineering documentation.
    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and experience in creating/reviewing hardware engineering drawings.
  • Ability to interpret, review, and implement Project Specifications, technical standards, employer requirements, and contract-specific engineering guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying Design Management (DM), Requirements Management (RM), Configuration Management (CM/CFX), Quality Management, Testing, Validation & Verification (V&V), and Safety Assurance processes throughout the lifecycle of railway signaling and rail automation projects.
  • Working knowledge of engineering processes and communication skills to interface with different departments.
  • You are familiar with CENELEC standards and processes (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129), railway signaling and design engineering
  • Knowledge of project management principles for project realization and execution
  • Fluent English essential both written and oral, knowledge of German / Spanish an asset
  • Willing to work as team member on international projects.
  • Ready to relocate anywhere in India.
  • Willing to travel for onsite works.
