About AerX Labs
AerX Labs is a pioneering startup based in Bangalore producing professional-grade flight simulators and a diverse range of innovative products for the Aviation Industry. At AerX, we pride ourselves on our strong multi-disciplinary engineering team, composed of experts in electronics, software, mechanical engineering, product design, and artificial intelligence. This unique blend of skills enables us to push the boundaries of what's possible in aviation training and maintenance solutions, ensuring our products not only meet but exceed the rigorous demands of the industry.
About the role
We are looking for a Lead Hardware Design Engineer to own hardware product development end to end from concept and architecture through design, validation, and production. You will set the technical direction for our embedded hardware, drive design quality across the board portfolio, and mentor a growing team of hardware engineers building certifiable aviation products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end hardware product development covering requirement analysis, system architecture, component selection, schematic design, PCB layout, prototype bring-up, validation, and production support.
- Architect complex processor and SoC-based embedded systems on platforms such as NXP i.MX, TI Sitara, and similar, spanning digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power domains.
- Own complex multilayer PCB layout, including stack-up planning, component placement, controlled impedance routing, differential pairs, length matching, grounding, return-path optimization, and high-speed layout techniques.
- Design and debug high-speed interfaces including LPDDR4/DDR3/DDR4, PCIe, Gigabit Ethernet (RGMII), USB, HDMI, MIPI CSI/DSI, eMMC, SPI, I2C, and UART.
- Design power architectures including DC-DC converters, LDOs, PMIC-based designs, power sequencing, protection, and reset circuits.
- Conduct schematic and layout reviews against Signal Integrity, Power Integrity, EMI/EMC, thermal management, DFM, and DFA requirements.
- Drive prototype board bring-up, hardware debugging, design verification, and root-cause/failure analysis.
- Support EMI/EMC testing and compliance activities for DO-160, MIL-STD-461, and other applicable standards.
- Perform engineering analyses including DFMEA, derating analysis, MTBF, WCCA, and tolerance analysis.
- Collaborate with Firmware, Software, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Certification teams to take designs from concept to certified product.
- Provide technical leadership across the hardware function and mentor junior hardware engineers.
Required Skills
- 10+ years of experience in embedded hardware design and product development.
- Proven hands‑on delivery of schematic design and complex multilayer PCB layouts across multiple shipped products.
- Proficiency with industry-standard ECAD tools Cadence OrCAD Capture/Allegro PCB Editor, Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, or KiCAD.
- Deep understanding of high-speed digital design principles, Signal Integrity, Power Integrity, and EMI/EMC.
- Working knowledge of application processors, DDR memories, and high-speed interfaces (Ethernet, PCIe, USB, HDMI, MIPI).
- Strong lab skills in board bring‑up, hardware validation, debugging, and failure analysis using standard test and measurement equipment.
- Experience in Aerospace, Avionics, or Industrial Embedded Systems is preferred; exposure to DO-160 / MIL-STD compliance is an added advantage.
What You’ll Get
- Ownership of hardware design for professional-grade, certifiable simulation products.
- A multi-disciplinary engineering environment spanning electronics, software, mechanical, and AI.
- High-ownership, low-bureaucracy startup culture with direct visibility to leadership.
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
