Job summary

Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS) is seeking a Lead Data Engineer (Lead Consultant) to architect and steer complex Google Cloud data engagements. You will own high-level design, drive large-scale transformations, and mentor engineers to deliver measurable business ROI.

Responsibilities include end-to-end data ecosystems, ETL design on BigQuery/Dataflow, cost governance, security standards, and migration of legacy systems to GCP native solutions.

Qualifications

• 9+ years in Data Engineering with 5+ years on Google Cloud.
• Deep knowledge of BigQuery, BigLake, Dataflow/Dataproc, and GCS.
• Familiarity with operationalizing ML models via BigQuery ML/Vertex AI Pipelines.
• Strong Python and SQL skills; proficiency in Terraform, CloudBuild, Docker and CI/CD.
• GCP Professional Data Engineer certification is mandatory.
• Experience with Git and automated deployments.

• Drive migrations from on-prem to GCP Native solutions and ingest data from third parties to BQ/GCS.

Position Summary:

As a Lead Consultant, you are the primary technical architect and strategic advisor for our most complex Google Cloud data engagements. You will own the high-level design of the data ecosystem, lead large-scale digital transformations, and ensure that technical solutions translate into tangible business ROI. This role requires a balance of architectural mastery, commercial awareness, and technical mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

• Enterprise Architecture: Design end-to-end data ecosystems using Data Mesh or Medallion patterns.
• Technical Authority: Hands on knowledge in BigQuery and Dataflow/Dataproc ETL design and automation using workflows or Airflow, Should be able to efficiently do RCA using logging and monitoring tools.
• Performance & Cost Governance: Conduct deep-dive audits of BigQuery usage.
• FinOps Strategy: Own the BigQuery Reservation strategy and optimize multi-million dollar cloud budgets.
• Governance Frameworks: Architect organization-wide standards for Dataplex, security, and PII compliance.
• Platform Security: Establish advanced security perimeters using VPC Service Controls and CMEK.
• Team Leadership: Mentor Senior Engineers and define the technical standard for the entire practice. Participate in design discussions, code review, production deployment planning/cutover, data discovery sessions
• Modernization Lead: Drive large-scale migrations from legacy on-prem systems to GCP Native solutions. Experience with third party data ingestion to GCP BQ/GCS

Experience and Requirements:

• Experience: 9+ years in Data Engineering, with 5+ years of specialized experience in Google Cloud.
• Expertise: Deep, internal-level knowledge of BigQuery, BigLake, Dataflow, Dataproc, GCS, Data transfer services, Pubsub, cloud DLP.
• AI/ML: Familiarity with operationalizing ML models via BigQuery ML and Vertex AI Pipelines (optional).
• Ecosystem: Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and proficiency in Terraform/Cloudbuild/docker, CI/CD pipelines.
• Certification: Professional Data Engineer (GCP) is mandatory.
• Tools: Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines building for automated code deployments.
