Job summary

GE Vernova Consulting in Chennai seeks an experienced Senior Electrical Power Systems engineer to lead design engineering, develop models, run studies with ETAP/DIgSILENT/PSCAD, and coordinate with customers and vendors.

The role emphasizes delivering projects on time, with quality and within budget, while supporting renewables, protection schemes, and grid interconnection standards in a matrix team.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a reputed college/university.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in power systems analysis or system engineering projects across industry, marine, oil & gas, or power domains.
  • Strong knowledge of power system analysis and electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience with ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and PSCAD.
  • Understanding of protection systems and grid interconnection requirements.
  • Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, and utility/grid codes.
  • Knowledge of scripting (Python or DPL) is an advantage.
  • Ability to interpret SLDs, relay coordination data, and equipment parameters.

Responsibilities

  • Lead role on design engineering and coordination with customers and vendors on VSDS projects.
  • Perform power system studies using ETAP / DIgSILENT PowerFactory / PSCAD.

Job Description Summary

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. Lead role on design engineering and coordination/key technical interface to customer and vendors in execution of projects based on Variable Speed Drive System (VSDS), responsible for the execution of projects in time, quality and budget.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform power system studies using ETAP / DIgSILENT PowerFactory / PSCAD.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain electrical network models for transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems.
  • Analyze grid performance, reliability, and operational behavior under normal and fault conditions.
  • Evaluate system compliance with grid codes, utility standards, and project specifications.
  • Support renewable integration studies for solar, wind, BESS, and hybrid systems.
  • Perform relay setting calculations and validate protection schemes.
  • Study voltage stability, frequency response, and network disturbances.
  • Prepare technical recommendations for system improvement and optimization.
  • Support Business Verticals in creating and reviewing (in conjunction with the leadership team) systems solutions as part of the OTR process, ensuring that solutions are technically fit for purpose and that technical risk is understood and managed with contingencies identified
  • Lead project execution - Analyze customers contract, prepare specifications and reports
  • Review solutions developed and identify opportunities for improvement of process, system, or equipment
  • Ensure strict compliance with all company and customers EHS policies and procedures
  • Identify and propose improvements in processes, tools, system solutions and technologies, rolling out improvements when agreed with leadership team
  • Foster relationship with other GEV business entities to maximize the benefits of synergies
  • Liaise with Platform Engineering, Technology and Value Engineering, and Supply Chain as appropriate to support the project and business
  • Drive lean mind set to provide optimum technical solutions for the projects
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Masters / Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering from reputed College / University
  • Minimum of 8+ years experience in Power Systems analysis / System engineering projects for Industry /Marine / Oil & Gas / Power domains
  • Strong knowledge of power system analysis and electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience with ETAP / DIgSILENT PowerFactory / PSCAD
  • Understanding of protection systems and grid interconnection requirements
  • Familiarity with relevant standards such as IEC, IEEE, utility/grid codes
  • Knowledge of Python, DPL, or other scripting tools is often an advantage
  • Ability to interpret SLDs, relay coordination data, and equipment parameters
  • Ability to adapt and multitask with project / application engineers
  • Analytical and innovative approach in problem solving
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
  • PLM, Primavera experience are added advantages
