Job summary

Viasat is looking for an experienced software developer in Chennai District, Tamil Nadu, to join our team. What you'll do

NexusWave delivers fast, always‑on connectivity by seamlessly integrating multiple high‑speed networks in real time – Global Xpress (GX) Ka‑band, low‑Earth orbit (LEO) services, and as‑available coastal LTE service – with an additional layer of L‑band for resiliency. NexusWave offers high‑speed connectivity, unlimited data, global coverage, and 'secure by design' infrastructure trusted by global enterprises and governments. You will work in a global cross‑functional development team, and interact directly with your peers within Access Edge Maritime Engineering to create the best possible service in a collaborative environment. The successful candidate is required to work on key Viasat Edge and shore‑side (AWS and HybridCloud) solutions. You are expected to be familiar with networking, software and communication hardware.

The day‑to‑day

• Ability to focus building solutions around performance with scale considerations in mind.
• Ability to work on distributed remote agile teams with a high degree of self‑motivation and ability to work independently.
• Embracing the DevOps philosophy of product development, in addition to your design development activities you are also required to provide operational support of the post‑production deployment.
• Create and discuss trade offs with low‑level designs around solutions to be made to work in Linux environment, in vessel and across clouds.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of software development experience with exposure of building applications at scale in C++ or Golang.
• Strong understanding of design trade‑offs, preparing LLDs for solving problem statements and discuss their trade‑offs in design.
• Good exposure to Docker, deploying solutions via Docker.
• Good exposure to Linux toolsets to automate build processes around a solution.
• Experience in developing restful services.
• Knowledge on OpenStack and AWS is an added advantage.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

What will help you on the job

• Ability to solve problems with understanding design trade‑offs while choosing a solution.
• Experience in implementing solutions that can fail fast, building strong pipelines and unit testing capabilities.
• Prior working experience in a DevOps team is a plus.
