Job summary

GE Vernova in Chennai is looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to lead LV/MV drive engineering, size and simulate components, and validate performance against UL/IEC standards.

The role entails designing power electronics, protecting circuits, preparing GA, BOM, SLDs, and supporting manufacturing with wiring routes and testings; travel may be required. You will mentor teams and collaborate with system and project managers in a matrix environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or master's degree in Power Electronics or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 12+ years of electrical design experience for Industrial drives / Control Panels like PCC, MCC, Switchboards, PLC Panels etc.
• Proficiency with AUTOCAD, E-Plan, ETAP and MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Lead LV/MV hardware drive engineering – Core Electrical & Power Electronics (AC/DC systems).
• Drive & Filter sizing, product hardware design / loss budget calculation / Earth & Protection circuits / Arc Flash Calculation / RCA.
• Understand product/project specifications and realize requirements to design using calculations, modeling and simulations.
• Design system/equipment to meet reliability, testing standards, manufacturability, material and cost guidelines.
• Prepare & validate design documents - configurations, principles of operation, application guidelines, specifications, GA, BOM, SLD & Schematics drawings as per requirement.
• Verify functional performance of prototype hardware under all specified operating conditions.
• Support Manufacturing for component installation, wire harness, cables routing and maintain clearance and creepages at Factory / Vendor facility.
• Taking a lead for alternate component selection, validation and localization/testing.
• Document functional test requirements and conduct test according to applicable standards (UL/IEC etc.) /conduct project FAT’s.
• Coordinate with System Engineer and Program / Product / Project manager execution on a continuous basis.
• May require travel as required.
