Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Principal Engineer in the Power T&D civil/structural discipline with extensive experience in HV/substation projects. You will lead design delivery, coordinate with clients, and mentor junior staff across ANZ and global projects. Strong knowledge of STAAD/ETABS and BIM tools is essential.

The role requires deep civil engineering fundamentals, travel readiness, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced consultancy environment.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of Civil Engineering components for Power, Transmission & Distribution projects.
• Strong background in civil structures, foundations and equipment foundations for power networks.
• Familiarity with international design codes and standards.
• Experience in design of RC and steel structures; cementing groundworks and pile foundations.
• Ability to review drawings, calculations and perform design checks.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of Civils & Structures design for transmission and distribution projects.
• Coordinate with clients and internal teams to meet project requirements.

Power Grid Division is involved in electricity utilities sectorin the UK & I, Canada, US, ME and APAC. We provide value-added engineering services and built solutions across the entire spectrum of electricity networks, from high voltage power transmission grids to low voltage industrial power distribution. We have designed HV Substations upto 400kV and Electrical infrastructure for large industrial/ Multi Use developments and Heavy industries. The team provides services to clients across the globe; however the major clients are in UK and Middle East.

The Power T&D team is looking for experienced Principal engineers in HV Plant Discipline, as we look to grow the team in line with business requirements. Your role

• Engineer – Senior (Lead) Civil / Structural
• We are looking for highly experienced engineers for a Senior role in ‘Civils & Structures’ design for transmission and distribution projects as we look to grow the team in line with business requirements. • Using your experience and knowledge, you will be leading the delivery of a variety of projects drawing upon the wider team for the technical engineering requirements and building a strong relationship with our clients. You will be client-facing, responsible for the delivery of our work and making sure it meets our client’s expectations.
• Designing of GIS buildings, Control Rooms, Switchyard civils, Transformer bunds and foundations.
• Civils/Structure detailing, calculations and material take-off.
• Design Basis Reports based client specifications,
• Perform studies, write reports, specifications and other technical documentation.
• Prepare construction details and supervise the work of technicians and designers.
• Stay up to date on the latest technologies to integrate them into the process of conception.
• Coordinate the work internally as well as with the client.
• Respond to request for proposals (RFP) by preparing proposals & estimation of man-hours.
• Mentoring junior staffs and able to provide training on subject of expertise and present study results to Clients.
• Strong conceptualization ability, strong interpersonal communication and organizational
• skills are a must, including the capability to explain and resolve complex technical issues, critical thinking and decision-making ability. Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, be willing to travel, and work successfully in a customer focused, project-oriented environment.

About you

• Broad knowledge of Civil Engineering components of Power, Transmission & Distribution Project.
• Sound understanding of technical principles underlying civil engineering, particularly civil engineering structures, foundation and equipment foundations related to Power Business – Including Generation and Power Networks
• Awareness of current international design codes and standards, especially BS and Euro codes.
• Preparation of design basis reports and perform structural design calculations based on same.
• of working with STAAD or any similar analysis/ design package.
• Capable of reviewing General arrangement drawing, RC detailed drawings, Bar Bending schedule etc.
• Experience in design of both RC and steel structures. Must have worked on Pile foundations
• Experience in design of connections.
• Experience in preparing calculation in Excel spreadsheets.
• Calculation using Mathcad will be an added advantage.
• Must be able to demonstrate review of works carried out by Junior team members
• Designing of HV substation equipment support structures (132kV and above),
• Experience in use of one or all the STAAD Pro, ETABS, Autodesk ROBOT or any other similar design package software tools will be an added advantage.
• Strong conceptualization ability, strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills are a must, including the capability to explain complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams. Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, be willing to travel, and work successfully in a customer focused, project-oriented environment.
• Masters / bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural engineering with 20+ years of relevant industrial experience.
• Thorough knowledge in Civil engineering fundamentals and concepts for Transmission, distribution and generation segments.
• Understand engineering concepts and capable of interfacing with different departments.
• Capability to produce good quality drawings, design calculations, technical reports and specifications.
• Meet the requirements of internationa and standards.
• Must have working knowledge in BIM environment.
• Professional spirit and good organizational skills.
• Lead and carry out consulting, research and development study projects.
• Analyse study results and recommend solutions as per requirements and able to discuss/clarify Clients with help of results.
• Working experience in Transmission & Distribution projects for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ)
• Meet the requirements of ANZ codes and standards.
• Contribute to maintaining existing and developing new client relationships.
• Flexibility to travel to client sites/offices when required.
