Job summary

Simplify Alpha is seeking an Engineering Lead to own the architecture of a next-generation, event-driven healthcare platform on AWS. You will balance hands-on backend work with delivery leadership, guiding a team of engineers through milestones in a sprint-driven process.

Responsibilities include shaping cross-service integration, building a shared Python library, enforcing quality gates and observability, and setting standards for AI agent development and STP.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience; expert-level Python with FastAPI or an equivalent async framework.
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs — agent design, prompt engineering, structured output, and tool/function calling.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams, owning shared libraries and quality gates, and coordinating cross-service integration.
• Deep expertise in event-driven architecture: at-least-once delivery, idempotency, dead-letter handling, and saga patterns.
• Strong AWS command: EventBridge, ECS Fargate, Lambda, RDS PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and multi-AZ deployment patterns.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and cross-service integration for the event-driven platform on AWS.
• Own the shared platform library — the Python package containing common event schemas, error types, auth utilities, and enums used across all services.
• Own the platform quality-gate and operations services; set the quality bar that all other services are validated against.
• Serve as the same-day escalation point for technical blockers; coordinate AWS deployment with the DevOps / Platform engineer.
• Set standards for AI agent development — prompt engineering, evaluation harnesses, structured agent logging, and the prompt version registry.
• Enforce straight-through-processing (STP) tier stamping, idempotency, and observability as build requirements across every service from day one.
• Lead design reviews, mentor and unblock engineers, and de-risk delivery against fixed weekly milestone gates.
• Stay hands‑on in critical paths — prototyping, reviewing, and unblocking the team.

You will own the platform architecture, shared libraries, and cross-service integration; set the quality bar for AI agent development and prompt engineering; and unblock a team of backend engineers — balancing hands‑on contribution with delivery leadership in a milestone-gated sprint.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience leading engineering teams, owning shared libraries and quality gates, and coordinating cross‑service integration.
• Deep expertise in event‑driven architecture: at‑least‑once delivery, idempotency, dead‑letter handling, and saga patterns.
• Strong AWS command: EventBridge, ECS Fargate, Lambda, RDS PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and multi‑AZ deployment patterns.
• PostgreSQL mastery: schema design, constraint authoring, and index strategy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills across technical and business audiences.
• Proven experience adopting and scaling agentic AI platforms (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot Agents) across the software development lifecycle, including defining standards, governance, and best practices for AI‑assisted engineering across teams.
