Job description

Position Summary

Mirafra Technologies is seeking an experienced and technically proficient Lead Android Kernel Developer to drive advanced mobile and embedded software engineering initiatives in Bangalore. In this critical leadership role, you will spearhead low-level operating system development, board support package optimization, and hardware-software integration across complex mobile platforms. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional hardware and software teams to architect robust kernel solutions, troubleshoot intricate system-level bottlenecks, and deliver high-performance Android products. Ideal candidates bring a strong engineering background, deep mastery of the Linux kernel and Android Open Source Project architecture, and a proven track of mentoring technical teams and executing mission-critical firmware and driver projects.

Detailed Job Description

As a Lead Android Kernel Developer at Mirafra Technologies, you will take ownership of the entire kernel lifecycle, from board bring-up and driver development to power optimization and security hardening. You will architect, design, and implement custom kernel patches, device drivers, and hardware abstractions tailored for next-generation mobile devices. Your responsibilities include analyzing system performance metrics, resolving deep memory leaks and race conditions, and ensuring strict compliance with Android compatibility definitions. You will provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, conduct rigorous code reviews, and establish engineering best practices that accelerate time-to-market. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will interface directly with silicon vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve complex hardware anomalies and optimize system throughput, thermal performance, and battery life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of custom Android kernel and board support packages (BSP) for advanced mobile platforms.
  • Architect and implement low-level device drivers for peripherals including display, camera, touch, sensors, audio, and wireless interfaces.
  • Perform board bring-up, hardware debugging, and oscilloscope/logic analyzer analysis on new hardware prototypes.
  • Optimize kernel performance, boot time, memory footprint, and power consumption across various operating states.
  • Resolve complex kernel panics, ANRs, deadlocks, race conditions, and memory corruption issues using debug tools like kgdb, ftrace, and KASAN.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, enforce coding standards, and mentor engineering team members on low-level design patterns.
  • Collaborate with hardware design teams and silicon vendors to resolve silicon bugs and integrate vendor patches.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Android security models, SELinux policies, and regular security patch integration.
  • Author comprehensive technical documentation, architecture specifications, and verification test plans.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10 to 18 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on embedded Linux and Android kernel development.

  • Deep expertise in C and ARM/ARM64 architecture, assembly, memory management, and multi-threading synchronization primitives.
  • Proven track record in board bring-up, device driver development (I2C, SPI, USB, PCIe, MIPI), and power management frameworks.
  • Strong proficiency in debugging complex system-level failures using ftrace, perf, gdb, JTAG, and logic analyzers.
  • Familiarity with modern version control systems (Git) and continuous integration pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and cross-functional leadership skills with excellent communication abilities.
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, hypervisors, and TrustZone / OP-TEE secure world development.
  • Direct exposure to 5G modem subsystem integration and cellular protocol stack driver tuning.
