Job description

The LDR Nursing Officer will be responsible for supporting maternity care in the Labour, Delivery, and Recovery unit. This involves monitoring mothers during labour, assisting gynecologists and obstetricians, supporting deliveries, providing newborn care assistance, maintaining documentation, and ensuring patient comfort. The candidate should have strong obstetric nursing knowledge, emergency readiness, infection control awareness, and the ability to deliver safe and compassionate maternal care.

• Provide nursing care to mothers during labour, delivery, and recovery stages.
• Monitor maternal vital signs, fetal heart rate, contractions, pain level, and labour progress.
• Assist gynecologists and obstetricians during normal delivery, emergency care, and procedures.
• Prepare labour room equipment, delivery trays, medicines, consumables, and emergency items.
• Support patient positioning, emotional reassurance, and comfort during labour and delivery.
• Administer medicines, IV fluids, injections, and prescribed treatments as per doctor instructions.
• Assist in immediate newborn care, baby warming, initial assessment, and breastfeeding support.
• Maintain accurate labour records, delivery notes, medication charts, and nursing documentation.
• Identify maternal or fetal distress and escalade immediately to doctors or senior nursing staff.
• Follow strict infection control, aseptic technique, hand hygiene, and biomedical waste practices.
• Coordinate with OT, NICU, blood bank, laboratory, pharmacy, and ward teams when required.
• Prepare patients for emergency LSCS or transfer when clinically indicated.
• Educate mothers and attendants on post-delivery care, hygiene, breastfeeding, and warning signs.
• Maintain cleanliness, privacy, safety, and readiness of the LDR area.
• Promote safe motherhood, respectful maternity care, and high standards of obstetric nursing.
