Responsibilities
- You will support the Research team in preparation of chemical solutions, standards and chemical waste disposal.
- You will assist in daily laboratory operations, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to SOPs.
- You will clean and replenish glassware and support the Research Team in preparing equipment set‑ups when required.
- You will ensure essential laboratory facilities (handwash stations, spill kits, first aid kits, etc.) are maintained and accessible.
- Monitor and restock laboratory supplies (chemicals, gases and consumables), by maintaining accurate inventories, registering and storing samples received, and changing gas cylinders. You will also support procurement processes.
- You will manage storage areas (fridges, chemical cupboards, benches, etc.) and ensure laboratory facilities are accessible.
- You will support the Laboratory Manager and Research Team in ensuring the safety documentation (laboratory handbook, risk assessments, COSHH, emergency procedures, etc.) are kept up to date and accessible to staff.
- You may also be trained and act as a First Aider and / or a Fire Marshal.
Requirements
- You will be qualified to a minimum Diploma or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in physical sciences or certified through a recognised apprenticeship.
- With 4 to 7 years of experience in a relevant technical or scientific facility/laboratory, ideally within Chemistry or a related field.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory operations, including inventory management and equipment maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Supporting risk assessments, COSHH, health and safety protocols and basic HSE regulations to the research team.
- Know‑how and experience in preparing chemical solutions and handling chemicals and chemical waste.
- You should have verbal and written English language skills.

Note: This role would be paid through a third party payroll.
