Position Summary

The Lab Chemist is responsible for conducting raw material testing, in-process and finished product quality analysis, maintaining laboratory records, and supporting trial batch manufacturing for household cleaning products such as liquid detergents, floor cleaners, toilet cleaners, dishwash liquids, glass cleaners, hand wash, disinfectants, and related formulations. The role ensures product quality, consistency, regulatory compliance, and process improvement within the manufacturing plant.

Key Responsibilities

1. Raw Material Testing & Approval

• Perform testing and inspection of incoming raw materials, chemicals, fragrances, colors, preservatives, surfactants, acids, alkalis, and packaging materials.
• Verify raw materials against approved specifications and standards.
• Conduct tests such as:
  • pH
  • Specific gravity
  • Viscosity
  • Active matter
  • Appearance and odor
  • Solubility
  • Stability observations
• Prepare and maintain raw material test reports.
• Approve or reject materials based on QC standards.
• Coordinate with stores and purchase departments regarding quality issues.

2. In-Process & Finished Goods Testing

• Conduct routine testing of semi-finished and finished products during and after production.
• Ensure products meet customer and internal specifications.
• Perform testing for:
  • pH
  • Foam quality
  • Viscosity
  • Color consistency
  • Fragrance matching
  • Cleaning performance
  • Stability
  • Density
• Release finished batches after QC approval.
• Maintain retain samples and testing records.
• Identify deviations and report non-conforming products.

3. Trial Batch Manufacturing & Product Development Support

• Prepare laboratory and pilot trial batches for new or modified formulations.
• Assist in formulation development and optimization activities.
• Calculate batch quantities and chemical dosing requirements.
• Monitor trial batch performance and document observations.
• Support scale-up activities from laboratory to production batches.
• Coordinate with production teams during commercial trial runs.

4. Documentation & Record Keeping

• Maintain laboratory registers, test reports, COAs, SOPs, and batch records.
• Ensure proper labeling and traceability of samples.
• Prepare daily QC reports and testing summaries.
• Maintain calibration records of laboratory instruments.
• Support audits and compliance documentation.

5. Laboratory & Safety Management

• Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of laboratory area.
• Handle chemicals safely as per MSDS and plant safety procedures.
• Ensure proper storage and disposal of chemicals and samples.
• Follow PPE and EHS guidelines at all times.
• Report unsafe conditions or laboratory incidents immediately.

6. Production & Quality Support

• Assist production team in resolving quality-related issues.
• Support troubleshooting of formulation and process deviations.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Help reduce batch rejection and improve product consistency.

Educational Qualification
