Job summary

RPM Global Business Capability Center is seeking an experienced laboratory professional in Navi Mumbai to support product development for coatings, admixtures, sealants, and polymer systems. The role covers preparation, mixing, milling, testing, data collection, and documentation of results, with emphasis on quality and safety standards.

You will work with resins such as epoxies, polyurethanes, silicones, polyurea, and alkyds, operating instruments like QUV, FTIR, and UTM to evaluate material

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or equivalent scientific discipline.
• 2 to 3 years of experience in an R&D, industrial, or manufacturing laboratory environment.
• Experience with paint and coatings, construction chemicals and other polymer related applications.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.
• Must be familiar with analytical instruments and techniques.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Previous experience in R&D, manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Strong understanding of the process for paint formulation/ construction chemicals, testing methodologies, and laboratory equipment
• Ability to conduct experiments and interpret data with accuracy and precision

Responsibilities

• Preparation, mixing, milling, and handling of formulations for coatings, admixtures, sealants, and polymer-based systems.
• Execution of routine and non-routine laboratory experiments to support product development, optimization, and quality evaluation.
• Operation of analytical and performance testing equipment to assess physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of materials.
• Sample preparation, testing, data collection, interpretation, and accurate documentation of experimental results.
• Maintenance, calibration, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Support scale-up, benchmarking, and validation trials as required by R&D projects.
• Compliance with laboratory safety standards, SOPs, and housekeeping requirements.
• Preparation of test reports, data summaries, and technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaboration with global R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams as required.
• Conduct laboratory tests to evaluate the quality and performance of coatings formulations, admixtures, or any other related polymer products.
• Experience working with resin systems and formulations involving epoxies, polyurethane, silicones, polyurea, alkyd resins etc.
• Performs various lab activities such as mixing, milling, coating application, analysis of the coating, admixtures, sealants etc.
• Handles routine analytical and testing equipment such as glossmeter, adhesion tester, QUV, UTM, CTM, Salt spray tester, Taber abrasion tester, FTIR, gel time, pectrophotometer, Durometer, Centrifuge etc.
• Experience in maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment
• Perform routine and complex experiments as per requirement and provide support to product development.
• Proficient in collecting, correlating and analyzing data to determine product properties and performance characteristics
• Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate with internal and external stakeholders
• Assist with maintaining laboratory safety and cleanliness.

Technical Skills

• Hands-on experience with polymer systems such as epoxies, polyurethanes, polyurea, silicones, alkyds, and related resin technologies.
• Strong understanding of paint and coatings, construction chemicals, adhesives, and sealants.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques including formulation mixing, milling, coating application, and sample preparation.
• Skilled in operating analytical and performance testing equipment, including but not limited to:

1. Gloss meter, adhesion tester, QUV

2. UTM / CTM

3. Salt spray tester, Taber abrasion tester

4. FTIR, spectrophotometer

5. Durometer, centrifuge, gel time instruments

• Experience with laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety standards, chemical handling, and waste disposal.
