Job summary

PineQ Lab seeks an experienced Kong API Architect to design, implement, and govern enterprise API management solutions using Kong Gateway. You will define API architecture, security, integration patterns, performance, and high availability while collaborating with development, cloud, security, and business teams.

The role emphasizes designing scalable Kong Gateway architectures, implementing security policies, and guiding DevOps practices across cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Kong Gateway and Kong API Management.
• Deep knowledge of API Management, REST APIs, microservices, and API security.
• Experience with OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, and mTLS, plus rate limiting.
• Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud environments expertise.
• CI/CD and DevOps practices experience.
• Linux, networking, HTTP/HTTPS, JSON, YAML, and scripting knowledge.
• Strong architecture, troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable Kong API Gateway architecture for enterprise applications and microservices.
• Configure routes, services, consumers, plugins, upstreams, and load balancing.
• Define API security and access controls using OAuth2/OIDC/JWT/mTLS.
• Establish API lifecycle, versioning, rate limiting, and traffic management standards.
• Integrate Kong with REST APIs, microservices, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms.
• Ensure high availability, monitoring, logging, and performance optimization for Kong environments.
• Develop infrastructure/configuration using Kong declarative configuration, DB-less mode, or Konnect.
• Troubleshoot gateway connectivity, security, and performance issues.
• Create HLD/LLD documents, architecture diagrams, specs, and runbooks.
• Provide technical leadership, conduct design reviews, and mentor teams.

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Kong API Architect to design, implement, and govern enterprise API management solutions using Kong Gateway. The role will be responsible for defining API architecture, security, integration patterns, performance, and high availability while working closely with development, cloud, security, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable Kong API Gateway architecture for enterprise applications and microservices.
• Configure and manage Kong Gateway, routes, services, consumers, plugins, upstreams, and load balancing.
• Define API security using OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, API keys, mTLS, and role-based access controls.
• Design API lifecycle, versioning, authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and traffic management standards.
• Integrate Kong with REST APIs, microservices, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms.
• Implement high availability, resiliency, monitoring, logging, and performance optimization for Kong environments.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure/configuration using Kong declarative configuration, DB-less mode, or Konnect as applicable.
• Troubleshoot complex API gateway, connectivity, security, and performance issues.
• Establish API governance, reusable patterns, standards, and best practices.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD, automation, Docker/Kubernetes, and deployment pipelines.
• Prepare HLD/LLD documents, architecture diagrams, technical specifications, and operational runbooks.
• Provide technical leadership, conduct design reviews, and mentor development/engineering teams.

Essential Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Kong Gateway / Kong API Management.
• Excellent understanding of API Management, REST APIs, microservices, and API security.
• Experience with OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, mTLS, rate limiting, authentication and authorization.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud environments.
• Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Good knowledge of Linux, networking, HTTP/HTTPS, JSON, YAML, and scripting.
• Strong architecture, troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
