Job summary

IIT Madras invites applications for a Junior Research Fellow to contribute to electrospray/FEEP propulsion research for small satellites in LEO. The role involves designing and developing propulsion systems, building analytical models, and conducting numerical and experimental studies.

Strong programming in Python/MATLAB and CAD experience (SolidWorks) are desirable. Candidates with Masters/PhD in relevant fields, CGPA >=7.5, and a valid GATE score will be considered.

Qualifications

• Masters degree or Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering/Technology or Physics with CGPA >= 7.5 and a valid GATE score.
• Desirable software skills include Python or MATLAB and SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

Job description

Electrospray/FEEP propulsion technology is a growing interest for small satellites manoeuvring specially for low earth orbit (LEO). This project includes the design and development of an electrospray propulsion system while investigating its fundamental aspects, optimizing emitters and finding innovative solutions for this technology. We are supposed to develop an analytical model for emitter performance and numerical studies to investigate the spray characteristics using OpenFOAM. Also, experimental setup will be developed to study the electrospray and its emission performance. Hence, the knowledge of basic python or MATALB is highly recommended. Junior research fellows under this project can also apply for PhD if they found this research area of their interest

Preferred candidate profile

Candidates with a masters degree/degree by Research, OR Ph.D. in Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering/Technology or Physics with a good academic record / 5 Year Dual Degree in Engineering. CGPA >= 7.5 along with a valid GATE score.

• Research area or experience in atmospheric plasma/non-thermal plasma/cold plasma, or dielectric barrier discharge is preferable.

Desirable Software/Programming Skills: Python or MATLAB, and SolidWorks etc.

Salary :

Rs 37000 /- + HRA Per month Or Consolidated (45,880/- pm)
