Job summary

Balmer Lawrie And Co Kolkata invites fresh graduates for a maintenance role overseeing MHE, HOPT and cold-chain facilities at our warehouse in Kolkata. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, monitor safety, and coordinate with vendors to keep equipment functional and compliant.

Suitable for new engineers with an interest in logistics infra. Preference given to those with engineering background in a cold-chain/temperature-controlled warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

• 1. Ensure 100% operational availability of MHE & HOPT through preventive/corrective maintenance and daily inspections.
• 2. Maintain dock levellers, dock shelters, dock doors, rolling shutters, sectional doors, gates and emergency exits for safe loading/unloading and warehouse operations.
• 3. Maintain pumps, motors, gearboxes, chains, bearings and other mechanical assemblies through preventive and corrective maintenance.
• 4. Maintain cold-store infrastructure including chamber doors, heaters, seals, air curtains, hinges and locks to prevent temperature loss.
• 5. Achieve 100% PM compliance, attend breakdowns within defined TAT, perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• 6. Ensure safety of MHE and equipment by checking brakes, horns, lights, forks, wheels, hydraulics and safety devices; ensure trained operators.
• 7. Manage battery charging areas and batteries; ensure readiness of pallet jacks, hand trolleys and weighing scales.
• 8. Maintain racks, guard rails, floor markings, safety barriers and platforms for safe operations.
• 9. Ensure availability of mechanical spares and coordinate OEM/AMC vendors for timely maintenance.
• 10. Ensure HSE compliance, maintain maintenance records, support CAPEX projects and drive 5S and continuous improvement.

Job description

• 1. MHE & HOPT Management Ensure 100% operational availability of MHE and HOPT through preventive/corrective maintenance, daily inspections, timely breakdown resolution and coordination with OEM/AMC vendors.
• 2. Dock & Warehouse Door Equipment Maintain dock levellers, dock shelters, dock doors, rolling shutters, sectional doors, gates and emergency exits to ensure safe and uninterrupted loading/unloading and warehouse operations.
• 3. Mechanical Equipment Maintenance Maintain, pumps, motors, gearboxes, chains, bearings and other mechanical assemblies through planned preventive and corrective maintenance.
• 4. Cold Store Mechanical Infrastructure Maintain chamber doors, door heaters, seals, strip/air curtains, hinges, locks and related cold-store infrastructure to prevent temperature loss and ensure cold-chain integrity.
• 5. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance Achieve 100% PM compliance, attend breakdowns within defined TAT, conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions to minimize repeat failures.
• 6. MHE & Mechanical Safety Ensure safety of MHE and mechanical equipment by checking brakes, horns, lights, forks, wheels, hydraulic systems and safety devices; ensure only trained personnel operate equipment and achieve zero mechanical safety incident s .
• 7. Battery & Utility Equipment Management Maintain battery charging areas and batteries, including charging cycles, water levels and ventilation, and ensure readiness of pallet jacks, hand trolleys, weighing scales, ladders and other utility equipment.
• 8. Warehouse Infrastructure Maintenance Maintain racks, guard rails, bollards, floor markings, safety barriers, platforms and other warehouse infrastructure, ensuring timely rectification of damages and safe operating conditions.
• 9. Spare, AMC & Vendor Management Ensure availability of critical mechanical spares, monitor inventory and coordinate/supervise OEM and AMC vendors for timely and quality completion of maintenance activities.
• 10. HSE, Documentation & Continuous Improvement Ensure compliance with HSE, PPE and LOTO requirements, maintain maintenance records and MIS, support CAPEX/improvement projects, implement 5S and contribute to reliability, cost optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
