Job summary

PhantomFX in Mumbai is seeking a Junior Compositing Artist for a short-term contract. You will join the 2D department to blend live-action with CG, execute keying, tracking, roto, and prep tasks in a world-class pipeline.

The role requires 3+ years in VFX compositing and proficiency with The Foundry Nuke. You should have a strong eye for lighting and composition, and be able to work under deadlines while collaborating with leads and peers.

Qualifications

• Industry Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of active VFX compositing industry experience is required for this role.
• Software Mastery: Hands-on, practical production experience utilizing industry-standard 2D compositing software such as The Foundry Nuke.
• Foundational Knowledge: Solid understanding of digital imaging, multi-pass rendering, color management principles, and matte extractions.
• Aesthetic Eye: A developed eye for photography, camera lenses, perspective, and practical real-world lighting setups is highly advantageous.
• Problem-Solving Skills: The proven ability to identify compositing artifacts or integration issues and independently implement smart, efficient fixes.
• Proactive Mindset: A self-driven approach to individual assignments, showing a willingness to take initiative and deliver excellent results with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Hands-On Compositing & Shot Execution: Seamlessly blend 2D and 3D elements, live-action plates, matte paintings, and stock footage into a cohesive, photorealistic final image.
• Keying & Extraction: Execute clean blue/green screen extractions with edge detail and color spill control.
• Tracking & Cleanup: Perform 2D tracking, planar tracking, frame-by-frame cleanup, paint fixes, and wire/rig removals.
• Roto & Prep Support: Support upstream workflows with rotoscoping and prep to ready shots for final comp.
• Workflow Execution: Follow internal studio production methodologies and naming conventions.
• Client & Internal Reviews: Participate in dailies and reviews, noting feedback for revisions.
• Feedback Implementation: Translate notes into accurate technical updates.
• Time Management: Deliver high-quality shots within timelines and flag bottlenecks early.

The Role: Junior Compositing Artist

PhantomFX is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Junior Compositing Artist to join our Mumbai team on a short-term contract basis. In this role, you will become an essential part of our 2D department, executing tasks that range from fundamental to complex compositing operations.

As a Junior Artist, you are responsible for the final integration of photographic, live-action elements and computer-generated graphics (CG) to create seamless, photorealistic images. You will combine your technical understanding of node-based compositing software with an innate artistic eye for depth, lighting, and composition. This position is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives under production deadlines, welcomes constructive supervisor feedback, and wants to work on challenging film and episodic projects within a structured, world-class pipeline.

Core Responsibilities

1. Hands-On Compositing & Shot Execution

• Elements Integration: Seamlessly blend 2D and 3D elements, live-action plates, matte paintings, and stock footage into a cohesive, photorealistic final image that maintains show continuity.
• Keying & Extraction: Execute clean, precise blue and green screen extractions, addressing edge artifacts, fine hair detail, and color spill issues.
• Tracking & Cleanup: Perform accurate 2D tracking, planar tracking, frame-by-frame cleanup, paint fixes, and wire/rig removals across complex cinematic plates.
• Roto & Prep Support: Leverage strong foundational skills in rotoscoping and digital preparation (prep) to assist upstream workflows and ensure shots are perfectly prepped for final compositing.

2. Pipeline Adherence & Production Logistics

• Workflow Execution: Adopt and follow established internal studio production methodologies, file naming conventions, and script organization standards.
• Client & Internal Reviews: Actively participate in internal dailies, department briefs, and client review sessions, carefully noting structural feedback.
• Feedback Implementation: Translate artistic notes and critique from 2D Leads and VFX Supervisors into swift, accurate technical revisions.
• Time Management: Deliver high-quality shots consistently within established project timelines, flagging technical bottlenecks proactively to your line manager.
