Job summary

Citigroup Inc. in Pune invites an Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst to contribute to design, development, and deployment of complex applications. You will work with the Technology team to implement new systems and revise existing ones, ensuring alignment with business needs.

The role requires deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, and cloud-native patterns. You will mentor peers, participate in Agile ceremonies, and ensure quality through automated tests

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of relevant experience in applications development.
• Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications.

• Working knowledge of consulting/project management techniques/methods.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain microservices using Java 17/21 and Spring Boot.
• Build robust RESTful APIs and publish OpenAPI specs.
• Design event-driven architectures with Kafka or JMS.
• Use Oracle and MongoDB with optimized data models.
• Adhere to SOLID, DDD, and TDD/BDD, with automated tests.
• Operate in Agile ceremonies and mentor junior engineers.
• Provide production support and incident management during releases.

Job description

The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct tasks related to feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, applications development, model development, and establish and implement new or revised applications systems and programs to meet specific business needs or user areas
• Monitor and control all phases of development process and analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation as well as provide user and operational support on applications to business users
• Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development to analyze complex problems/issues, provide evaluation of business process, system process, and industry standards, and make evaluative judgement
• Recommend and develop security measures in post implementation analysis of business usage to ensure successful system design and functionality
• Consult with users/clients and other technology groups on issues, recommend advanced programming solutions, and install and assist customer exposure systems
• Ensure essential procedures are followed and help define operating standards and processes
• Serve as advisor or coach to new or lower level analysts
• Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
• Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
• Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Design & Development

• Microservices Development:Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-throughput, low-latency microservices usingJava (17/21),Spring Boot, and cloud-native frameworks.
• API Architecture:Build and document robust RESTful APIs and event-driven interfaces adhering to enterprise API standards, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications,
• Event-Driven & Messaging Systems:Design asynchronous workflows and event streaming pipelines usingApache Kafka or JMS.
• Database & Data Management:Implement efficient data persistence layers using relational databases ( Oracle) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB), ensuring optimized indexing, query execution, and transactional integrity.

Engineering Excellence & DevOps

• Code Quality & Best Practices:Enforce clean code principles, SOLID design patterns, domain-driven design (DDD), and test-driven development (TDD/BDD).
• Automated Testing:Author comprehensive unit, integration, and contract tests utilizing JUnit 5, Mockito maintaining high automated test coverage (>85%).
• CI/CD & Cloud Integration:Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines and containerize services usingDockerandKubernetes / OpenShift.
• Observability & Reliability:Integrate logging, metrics, and tracing instrumentation into microservices using frameworks such as OpenTelemetry, Micrometer, Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk/ELK.

Collaboration & Leadership

• Agile Participation:Actively participate in Scrum/Kanban ceremonies (sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, retrospectives).
• Peer Reviews & Mentorship:Conduct rigorous code reviews and provide constructive feedback to junior engineers
• Production Support & Incident Management:Partner with Level 3 (L3) support teams for triage, root-cause analysis (RCA), and remediation of critical production incidents during release rollouts and business hours.
