Job summary

Reserve Bank Information Technology is seeking an experienced L2 Support Engineer with 5–8 years in production support. The role requires strong Angular frontend skills and robust Core Java, Spring Boot, and microservices backend expertise.

You will diagnose database issues with SQL and assist cross‑functional teams with seamless API integrations. You will work with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to ensure deployments, monitor system health, and guide end users on complex integration

Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and proactive L2 Support Engineer with 5 to 8 years of experience to join our production support team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and ensuring the high availability of our modern production applications.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong full-stack technical background, combining Angular frontend knowledge with robust Core Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices backend expertise. You will act as a critical technical bridge, utilizing advanced SQL skills to diagnose database issues and leveraging deep API knowledge to assist cross-functional teams with seamless application integrations.

Key Responsibilities

• The candidate will continuously oversee system health to proactively detect, diagnose, and resolve high-severity production incidents while maintaining peak application uptime.
• They will leverage a solid understanding of distributed microservices architectures to isolate faults and trace data flows across decoupled systems. By applying deep engineering insight, they will trace application workflows and debug issues seamlessly across the Angular frontend, Java backend, and middleware integrations.
• The engineer is expected to author, analyse, and tune complex SQL queries to investigate data anomalies and resolve performance bottlenecks within intricate database schemas.
• Under pressure, they must evaluate multi-application failures swiftly, perform deep-dive Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and deploy workarounds or fixes to minimize downtime.
• Managing tasks effectively by shifting focus across diverse application portfolios and environments without compromising troubleshooting quality or speed is critical.
• Additionally, they will partner closely with DevOps, Infrastructure, and Development teams to facilitate smooth deployments, streamline release management, and maintain transparent business communication. The role requires identifying, logging, and escalating critical software defects discovered in UAT or production environments directly to engineering teams for remediation.
• Finally, they will guide external teams and end-users through complex application integration challenges, delivering clear technical guidance and timely resolutions.

Must Haves

• Applicants must possess professional proficiency in Angular, including comprehensive hands‑on experience with components, services, and UI layout building using HTML and CSS.
• They need robust, production‑level knowledge of Core Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem, alongside strong operational familiarity with Microservices environments and distributed system designs.
• Proven analytical skills with a methodical approach to navigating logs, isolating bugs, and defining definitive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) are strictly required.
• Candidates must have a deep understanding of SQL databases that spans advanced query writing, schema design inspection, and query performance optimization.
• Hands‑on experience navigating OpenShift or Kubernetes container environments is mandatory, alongside a strong familiarity with the overall software deployment lifecycle.
• The role demands strong exposure to RESTful APIs, web service integration, and core network fundamentals including HTTP and HTTPS protocols.
• Furthermore, the ideal candidate must demonstrate everyday proficiency with API testing suites like Postman, database IDE tools, and log aggregation stacks such as the ELK platform or similar log management systems.
• Candidates must possess a good understanding of modern authentication and authorization mechanisms like OAuth and SAML 2.0.
• Candidate must be familiar with at least one of the caching systems like Redis, Hazelcast or DataGrid etc.
• Exposure to message brokers and event‑driven architectures, specifically Apache Kafka, is also essential.
• The candidate will maintain clear, polite, and professional communication with business stakeholders to gather incident details and provide transparent status updates during production glitches.
• They are expected to compile routine operational metrics and present timely performance reports and status updates directly to management.
• As they scale their impact, the engineer will actively mentor junior team members, guiding them through standard operational playbooks and runbook execution.

Good To Have

• Familiarity with core system design principles, enabling a conceptual understanding of application structures, data flows, and infrastructure dependencies.
• Ability to independently develop and execute small Proof of Concepts (POCs) for application enhancements or new features based on evolving business requirements.
